Time. It goes by so fast. It’s hard to believe that Easter is just a few weeks away now. It seems like only yesterday that we were all in a crazy hype about Christmas. Now the weather is a little brighter and the evenings a little lighter, time is on our side and soon the Summer months will arrive. My favourite time of year.
With the hustle and bustle of a busy, working lifestyle it can be so easy to get caught up in day to day life. The days whizz by and the nights too. We are all getting older and maybe a little wiser but sometimes, it can be refreshing to look at life through the eyes of a child. Have you ever done that?
This evening, just before bedtime, I’d got the Little Man ready for bed and he was all snuggled up. The cheeky thing had got himself in to my bed and was watching Horrid Henry on the TV. I snuggled down beside him for night time cuddles and I said “Is this nice?” His reply was so simple, yet so meaningful. “Yes. I love bedtime, it’s my favourite because I get to have snuggles with you”.
I melted on the spot. Obviously, we have snuggles whenever we can, but to him, the evening, before he goes to bed, is obviously so special to him. It made me realise that it’s those precious times that are the most memorable and the most important to him. It doesn’t matter how many toys he has, how many days out or if he’s allowed an extra half an hour on the iPad. Time to him, with us as his parents, is precious, and in his words, his favourite.
So this week’s ‘Wednesday Wisdom‘ is this:
“Spend more time then money on your children. These are the memories they will take with them into their own adulthood, long after the trinkets and toys of yesterday have rusted.”
It speaks for itself.
We had an extra ten minutes snuggles tonight. How could I not when I knew it meant so much?
See you next week.
