Ever since I used to watch Neighbours and Home and Away when I was little, Australia has always been on my list of places I want to visit. Sydney has always appealed to me and so today I’ve put together a list of the 8 must do things to do in Sydney.
Sydney Harbour BridgeClimb
It’s not surprising that this iconic building is at the top of my things to do in Sydney list! Climb to the top of Sydney’s famous harbour bridge and take in the breathtaking views. Specially organised climbs are available and you can choose what time of day you want to do the climb. Both dawn and dusk climbs are also available.
The Bondi to Coogee Clifftop Walk
After spending some time on the world famous Bondi beach, take a 6km walk from Bondi along clifftops via Tamarama Beach, Bronte, Beach and Clovelly Beach. Take in panoramic views along the way, with waterside parks, beaches, sea baths & many plaques telling local Aboriginal stories. Do not forget your camera for this one!
A Ferry Ride From Circular Quay to Manly
Take a ferry ride to explore the outer harbour. The 30-minute ride across the harbour to Manly is a must. Partake in relaxing drinks on the wharf and get plenty great for photos of Sydney harbour on the return journey. It’s known as the best-known ferry ride in Sydney for a reason.
The Blue Mountains
The Blue Mountains get their name from the natural blue haze created by vast eucalypt forests and are a two-hour train ride from Sydney’s Central Station. You can either do a day trip on the train & use the Blue Mountain Explorer hop on, hop off bus or you can cycle around. You could, of course, hire a car if you wanted to take your time. There are also plenty of places to stay overnight too.
Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is one of the most iconic buildings in the world. When you’re visiting the city you can book tickets for a dance, music or theatre performance. There are over 40 shows a week at the Sydney Opera House so there really is something for everyone. Have a drink and a nice meal. Or you can take a guided tour. The choice is yours.
A Helicopter Flight
Book yourself the trip of a lifetime and see the sights from an aerial view. Take in the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach and further afield to the Blue Mountains and the Hunter Valley. Touring by helicopter is the only way to see some of Sydney’s 240 kilometres of harbour shoreline and see the harbour bridge in all its stunning glory. Private helicopter charter flights are available.
The Royal Botanic Garden
The Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney is the perfect place to go if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
Find a favourite picnic spot, walk on the grass, touch the trees, smell the flowers and talk to the birds. Then when you’re done, have a browse around the shops. Above all, take your time and relax.
Taronga Zoo Sydney located in the suburb of Mosman on the shores of Sydney Harbour. The 69-acre zoo is home to over 4000 animals of 350 species. It also has a shop, a cafe and an information centre.
To get there you can hop on the ferry then a cable car (or bus) to the main entrance, then work your way back down through the zoo back to the ferry.
So there we have a list of 8 must do things to do in Sydney, if you are ever lucky enough to go. I hope to be ticking a few of these off my list myself one day!
Have you ever been to Sydney? Do you have anything to add to this list? Let me know in the comments.
