I made a casual observation the other day. I was driving home from an appointment in town and it was around the time of the end of the school day and I noticed that the girls weren’t carrying school bags. They were carrying handbags. When did this start happening? It certainly wasn’t the case in the 90’s when I was a teenager. I took to Twitter, as you do, when these things cross your mind.
I’m well aware this will show my age, but when did handbags become schoolbags?!

I wasn’t alone in my thoughts. The tweet got quite a lot of interaction and in my head, it spiralled. It set me thinking and reminiscing about my time as a teenager at school and how much things have changed in those twenty (yes, twenty!) years since I was that young. I, therefore, bring you, memories of a 90’s teenager.
This is a complete and utter brain dump so forgive me for the randomness. This is literally how my brain worked when thinking about the best of decades!

Oh my. If I sat and thought for long enough, I could add so many more. There is every chance I will as well. It’s left me feeling really sentimental and missing the 90’s. I’d love to go back for just one day. But, alas, I’ll just have to make do with the Friends reruns that are on my tv as I write this. Man, those days were good.

I can relate to SO MANY of these!! I loved Tamy girl, walking to my local newsagents and picking up a copy of Bliss, Sugar or Smash hits. I was desperate for a pair of pink kickers (I know!) and loved Backstreet Boys! Love this post! I think its great to reminisce and realise how much things have changed. Haha I loved so many of the things on this list, I feel old now lol. My daughter is 12 and she has a handbag for a school bag (A Primark one though lol). I tried to talk her out of it but she wasn’t having it lol.

Loved this. I was a late teen/ in early twenties in the early 90s and most of that still rings a bell with me. I was a HUGE fan of the checked shirts, often wearing one knotted at the waist and a bigger one over the top as a jacket. Brilliant . #triumphanttales

I was a teen in the 80’s but can still remember Charlie Red and Kickers shoes! As for handbags, my friends and ours were happy to carry our books in a plastic bag, the more worn the better, despite having a perfectly functional school bag!

I graduated high school in ’92, so most of the 90s were spent pretending to be an adult, but I don’t think I had many fooled. Good times, fun decade for me #triumphanttales
sadly i was a teenager the decade before and by the 90s i was a mum. but i do remember taking a massive ruck sack to school and a large sports bag as we didn’t have lockers, #triumphanttales
