A while back, the lovely Laura over at loopyloulaura.com tagged me in this fun little tag. 10 Things That Make Me Happy. Life has been a tad busy of late with holidays and busy weekends, so my apologies that I’ve only just got around to doing this. But what better way to start the week than focusing on the things that make me happy!
Let’s dive right in!
- MY FAMILY – Of course it goes without saying. My family are the top of my list. They’re number one. Without them, I am nothing. I am very lucky to have a close family. My husband. My gorgeous little boy, and of course my parents and my Sister. They all mean the world to me and I am so grateful to have them in my life.

- MUSIC – Quite possibly my first love. I grew up from a very early age listening to all kinds of music. If ever I am having a bad day, my favourite songs always put me in a better mood. Music for me is an instant pick me up. I’ve written a couple of blog posts on my music taste in the past. These include 10 Songs That Make Me Happy and the 30 Day Song Challenge. My music taste is varied and diverse, to say the least!
[bctt tweet=”When you’re happy you enjoy the music, when you’re sad, you understand the lyrics – Frank Ocean” username=”JakiJellz”]
- A GOOD HAIR AND MAKEUP DAY – This may sound superficial, but I don’t really care. We all have days where we just don’t feel brilliant about ourselves, so when a day comes along where the hair is looking good and the makeup went on like a dream, I feel so much better about myself. I feel more confident and ready to take on what the day has in store for me.
- HOLIDAYS – Well this goes without saying. We all love a break away and time with our nearest and dearest. It’s even better when the weather is on your side. It’s so important to have a break every now and again. We all need it to recharge and take stock. We try and get away at least once a year with a couple of long weekend’s if we are lucky. There’s nothing like a road trip and a change of scenery.

- A SUNNY DAY – This kind of ties in with holidays, but even just waking up on a Monday morning, if the sun is shining and it promises to be a beautiful day – this instantly puts me in a better mood. How can it not?! Leaving the house without a jacket and just flip flops on your feet, Monday can throw anything at me, if it’s sunny, I can usually manage!
- RAIN ON THE WINDOW AT NIGHT TIME – Whilst I love a sunny day as much as the rest, there is nothing I love more than listening to the sound of the rain when I am going to sleep at night. I’ve struggled to sleep at times in the past and just recently I found that listening to the rain helps. I downloaded an app that has various different rain sounds on a timer, and I no longer have trouble. Bliss.

- CHINESE FOOD – I love Chinese food. Friday night is takeaway night in our house and I always look forward to this weekly treat. I swear it would be my last meal if I ever had to choose! Even better would be a trip out to a Chinese Restaurant. This happens less often these days with a little one in tow, but when it does, it feels extra special!
- FEELING APPRECIATED – There is nothing nicer than someone showing their gratitude or appreciating you for something you have done or achieved. It’s the best feel good feeling you can get. A pat on the back is always nicely received and to feel wanted too. That makes me happy.
- TIME BY MYSELF – Whilst I love being with friends and family, I need time to myself too. This is the introvert in me. Especially after a busy few days of constant socialising, I need the serenity of being on my own. I crave it in fact. This isn’t anything personal towards anyone, it’s just something I need as part of my day to day life. I’m comfortable in my own company and so long as I get this time, I’m good for everything we have planned as a family.

- A NIGHT IN WITH NOTHING TO DO – Gone are the partying days. I don’t miss them. I spent every weekend throughout most of my twenties out on the town drinking and dancing and I think I can safely say I’m done. That’s not to say I will never have a night out again, of course, I will. But I love nothing more than having an evening with absolutely nothing to do. What a perfect evening.
I’m feeling pretty grateful for all I have after writing this. What a great way to finish the weekend and start a new week. If it’s sunny in the daytime and rainy at night time, that would be an added bonus. But if it’s not, there’s always the music, right?!

A night in with nothing to do sounds perfect! I too used to love nights out on the town and now the idea just has me almost receding back to my duvet. I still like letting my hair down but the pure effort of getting dressed up, putting on heels and buying lots of watered down drinks until I feel tipsy enough to dance is just exhausting these days! x
It’s so good to be grateful for the things that make you happy. I love this post and actually got tagged in it so need to get writing pronto! I think sunshine will also be on my list 😁 #triumphanttales
Rain on the roof at night makes me so happy! #TriumphantTales.
Oh I know what you mean about the rain. There’s nothing better than lying in a cosy bed, preferably snuggled up with your man and listening to the rain pouring down outside. I also love the sound of the rain when I’m in my car 🙂 #TriumphantTales x
As long as you get to stay in the car though right? 😁
The sun shining also really affects my moods. Being able to sock free…that’s the best 😝
Yes! I love being barefoot! 👌🏼
Oh I love me time too! I also partied and feel like I’ve definitely not missed out. Music is a great mood changer for me and any form of art, I love drifting away absorbing a poem, play, photo or sculpture. I’m a sponge I guess. #TriumphantTales
Nothing wrong with being absorbent! 🙂
Lots of lovely things that make you happy 🙂 Would certainly have to have curry on my list… plus lie in’s, they make me incredibly happy! Sim xx #triumphanttales
Oh yes. Lie ins. Clearly I’ve forgotten what they are! 😂
Its like I have written this post!! every point is perfect! #triumphanttales
Oh bless you. Thank you! X
I loved participating in this challenge!
Thank you for the glimpse into your happy place. 🙂
It’s my pleasure 🙂
I love this post. So positive and got me thinking about the things that make me happy. Holidays, family and me time are all things I can agree with. #TriumphantTales
Glad you enjoyed – a good one to go back and read on a down day! 🙂
These are really lovely. i totally agree but what a poor choice with the Chinese! Indian every time haha 😉 #triumphanttales
Haha! I’m partial to anything that doesn’t involve me cooking!!
Agree with all of these apart from the make-up bit as don’t wear it and it does not really interest me. Being appreciated is a huge one for me.
And the most important of all, I would think 🙂
Good hair and make up days! Oh how I miss them haha. I think my favourite products are dry shampoo and moisturiser at the moment!
Fab list xx
#triumphanttales
Oh Dry Shampoo is a daily favourite!
What a great list! I love rain on the window too!! #HumpDayLinky
Total bliss isn’t it?!
Chinese food is so yummy!!! #HumpDayLinky
I know, right?!
I’m with you on all of these! It really is the simple things in life that make you happy 🙂 #triumphanttales
Totally agree!
I’ve always been an independent woman so having some ‘me’ time is a good way to keep me happy. I like this post I might use this ‘things that make me happy’ idea. Thanks for the inspiration
Go for it, let me know if you do, I’d love to read it!
This is such a lovely post. I love things like this as they are a great reminder of all the things we have to be grateful for. #TriumphantTales
Absolutely – we all focus on the negatives so much, it’s nice to focus on the positives once in a while!
Happiness for me is having time to spend with my children without having work to do at the same time. We are into the 6 weeks holidays now with a workaholic husband! Juggling mummy and business is going to be tough so we are planning set times for work!
Oh good luck with that! I hope you find some time to down tools! 🙂
Lovely to hear about the good things that make you smile 🙂 hope you enjoyed the tag #triumphanttales
Certainly did – thanks again for tagging me! 🙂
I love this post and so many of the things on your list – we may be tied, 8 for 10! I think I would say sushi instead of chinese (with an ice cream follow up) and feeling good vs the hair day (I’m in the midst of growing my haird for locks of love – so I am quite certain I look a mess!) TY #TriumphantTales xoxo
It’s great to recognise the things that make us feel happy! Thanks for all the social shares – always appreciated 🙂
It’s funny isn’t it but I think a family makes you appreciate the simple pleasures in life so much more. Whilst I still do love a good night out even at 50, you can’t beat a night in with those you love or for me by myself. My husband calls me Greta Garbo and wafts around saying “I want to be alone, leave me alone” whenever I try to manoeuvre a night alone, but it is so important. Hope you enjoy some quality time over the summer. #TriumphantTales
Definitely! I can’t bear it if I don’t have time to myself to recharge!
This really made me smile…Lots of these things make me happy too. I had a night out at the weekend and it made me realise I much prefer nights in with nothing important to do. hehehe x #SharingtheBlogLove
Phew! I’m not old and past it – this is normal after all! 😀
It’s always a GOOD IDEA to remind ourselves of this! #dreamteam
I agree!
Music is fantastic for leading us to a variety of different emotions. #DreamTeam
Couldn’t live without it!
Family, sunshine and holidays make me happy too! It’s so nice to be together, warm and relaxed! Already looking forward to mine next year. Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst x
So glad we have one in October this year! 🙂
Great list Jaki! Sunshine and holidays are great and I love the sound of heavy rain on the windows too – especially at Xmas time when the tree lights are on and the fire’s blazing.
Thanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes 🙂
Debbie
Sounds blissful!
Oh, I agree with all of these! The one I’d not really considered is the rain on the window at night, but it always makes me grateful to be tucked up all cosy in my bed. I’m a big introvert too, so time to myself regularly is just blissful. I think my craving for alone time is the thing I find hardest about being a parent – it’s so difficult to get! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
SO difficult isn’t it?!
Sunny days are certainly high on a happy list. I think I might have to do a happy list again soon. I miss it! Definitely a good mood lifter 😀 Thank you for linking up to the #familyfunlinky
A bit of sunshine can always bring a smile 🙂
Oooh lovey we sound very similar, literally all of these things make me happy too. I think I would just add holidays lol! #triumphanttales
Holidays are in there too lovely! 🙂
Oh gosh my bad! Overlooked that one 🙈
😀 x
Such a lovely post and great list! I also find the sound of the rain at nighttime really calming so may have to check out the App Store #bestandworst xxx
Ah you won’t regret it, it’s great!
Aww Jaki, I feel like we would get on very well! I totally love a bit of time to myself and the appreciation thing is so important to me too. Thanks for linking up to #dreamteam xx
Two peas in a pod! 😄
What a lovely list of things that make you happy. I love Chinese food too and rain on the window at nighttime is such a lovely relaxing sound – especially if the rain is gone by the morning and you have sunshine afterwards! 🙂 #sharingthebloglove
Absolutely! Perfection!
What a lovely tag! It’s good to take time to focus on the happy things in life, it’s all to easy to just focus on the things that are not going great or make you sad. I’m an introvert too and crave me time, when it happens its so nice. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
Completely agree. Loved writing this!
The sun def. makes me happy. Netflix and pjs make me happy too. #TriumphantTales
Good call!
Couldn’t agree more with rain on the window – nothing better than being snuggled up cosy and warm inside whilst it’s rainy and cold outside! #humpdaylinky
You can’t beat a good Chinese take away! #bestandworst
I hear you!
