There is no denying that today’s society gets driven by consumerism. Many people feel that they should be buying everything brand new in their lives, from cars to electronics, and, of course, clothes. However, there is a growing trend to re-use and re-purpose things already used by others.
Sure, there are benefits to buying things like vehicles and houses that are pre-loved. But, should you be taking things up a notch by purchasing pre-loved clothes and accessories? The short answer is yes; here’s the long answer:
Pre-loved items are more sustainable and eco-friendly
Buying pre-owned clothing and fashion accessories means you are helping the environment. Did you know that clothes manufacturing uses a lot of resources and often results in waste products that can harm the environment? By opting for pre-loved items, you help to drive down the demand for brand new garments, especially those made with cotton.
Your bank balance won’t take a hammering
One of the harsh realities of the fashion world is that, for the most part, new clothing is not cheap. Even if you stick with unknown brand labels, you’re still paying a pretty penny for new threads. It comes as no surprise that purchasing pre-loved garments means that you’re saving yourself a bundle of cash!
When you start buying pre-loved clothing, one thing you will notice is that even branded items cost a small fraction of what they were brand new. Plus, it’s not uncommon to find pre-owned garments for sale that were never even worn. Typically, such clothing is being sold because they are unwanted gifts, or they were bought in error and the purchaser cannot find their receipt to obtain a refund.
It’s common to find great accessories at bargain prices
Did you know that it’s not just pre-loved clothing that you can buy cheaper than brand new equivalents?
Accessories such as sunglasses are easily found in places like charity shops, vintage stores, and even car boot sales and market stalls. If you wear corrective eyewear, did you know you can reglaze glasses? That means you could potentially buy a secondhand set of branded sunglasses and have the right prescription lenses fitted to them. They would still work out a lot cheaper than purchasing the same pair with corrective lenses brand new! You’re doing so because it’s a sustainable and cost-effective way of filling up your wardrobe with new (to you) attire. Or, if you are set on buying brand new, choose eco-friendly clothing brands.
Buying pre-loved is cool
You don’t need to be interested in vintage items to have an excuse for buying pre-loved clothing and fashion accessories. Believe it or not, there is no stigma surrounding the purchase of such items. It’s actually a rather trendy thing to do!
Of course, you aren’t purchasing pre-loved items just for the sake of being on-trend. You’re doing so because it’s a sustainable and cost-effective way of filling up your wardrobe with new (to you) attire.
You never know what kinds of amazing finds you will come across on your travels as you seek out pre-loved garments and fashion accessories. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and start searching today!
