Online Shopping Has Saved My Christmas

I’m really hoping this post isn’t going to get negative feedback, because at the end of the day, this blog is all about honesty, and I think I can pretty much guarantee that I am not the only one who has prepared for Christmas in this way. Hands up all those who can say ‘online shopping has saved my Christmas’?

This year has been chaotic, to say the least. A change in jobs earlier on the year for both me and my husband has meant that we haven’t had a lot of time together to do the traditional Christmas shopping trips. Not only do we have Christmas to prepare for in December, but is also our son’s birthday, so we have a double whammy to contend with.

Online shopping has no doubt become more and more popular as the years have gone by and I think this is for various reasons.

Online shopping saves time

People are busier these days. It’s far more convenient to sit in the evenings with your computer, tablet or smartphone and browse the online stores when watching tv. I for one, have little spare time during the week and the spare time I do have is spent with my small person which would make it near impossible to go shopping. So for me, it is so much easier to browse the internet and buy at my leisure.

Price comparison

Is there anything more annoying than buying something only to find it cheaper elsewhere? The thought of traipsing from shop to shop to find the item for the least amount of money makes my head hurt. A quick scour online and you can work out where to buy it from for the cheapest price. This is especially great around the time of Black Friday. I’d much rather this than squabbling among the crazy bargain-hunting shoppers in the local shopping centre.

Gift Lists

As I mentioned earlier, we don’t just have Christmas to contend with in December, we have our little boy’s birthday too. We get a lot of questions each year about what he would like, what is he in to and so on. This year, I can honestly say that Amazon has been a godsend. I created a wish list of all the things he had shown an interest in and I shared it with all those who had asked. As soon as they shopped from the list, the item disappeared, so there was no chance of him ending up with the same present from different people. It works in much the same as a wedding gift registry and I will certainly be using it again in future.

Convenient delivery or collection

I work from home for the majority of the week and so it’s convenient for me to have things delivered on a day that suits me. Or, I can collect on my way home from work on the days that I do go to the office. This kind of shopping just fits so well into my lifestyle I would be a fool to not take advantage of it.

I am an avid Amazon Prime fan and I have to admit, I get most of my day to day purchases, as well as Christmas presents from here. This means I very often take advantage of their next day delivery and so I don’t have to wait until I can get to the shops. On a rare occasion, there is an issue with an item or delivery Amazon Customer Services are always super helpful and will assist in resolving the issue.

So this is why online shopping has saved my Christmas. I currently have a cupboard full of presents that need wrapping and the majority of them have been delivered right to my door at a time to suit me. I haven’t paid over the odds for them and I haven’t got myself in a stress trying to get to the shops to buy them. If I hadn’t got this option available to me, I honestly don’t know how I would be ready for Christmas at all. That may sound like an exaggeration but I can assure you, it’s the truth!

I understand that supporting our local high street is important and I will always try to do this when I can, but self-care is also important and if I can avoid any added stresses in my life by doing online shopping, then that’s what I will do. I’m not the only one, am I?
