Every now and again I’ll hear a new song and it will totally pull me in and I’ll be utterly obsessed with it for a few weeks. Obsessed in the way it will be on repeat in the car for every journey I make. Repeat in the kitchen while I’m washing up or cooking dinner. Repeat in my bedroom when I’m getting ready in the morning. Just generally on repeat whenever there is an opportunity.
It doesn’t happen very much these days. Sadly. So when it does it gives me a boost and reassures me that I’m not old and past it and there is still music out there that I don’t think is ‘all the same’ or some other description my parents probably used when I was small.
The song that’s captured my heart this Summer is ‘Rude’ by Magic! They are a Canadian reggae fusion band and I heard it on Scott Mills’ radio show on Radio 1 when driving home. I didn’t know who it was only that I bloody loved it. So I used that brilliant invention known as Shazam to tell me.
It was available to buy from 20th July and so I had to wait a bit but when Sunday rolled around I was happy to make the 99p purchase. A tap of the button & it was on my iPhone, free for me to enjoy at any given moment. On repeat. Of course.
Why do I like it so? It’s just so catchy and summery. A happy go lucky not-too-serious tune that sticks in your head. And really easy to sing along to. I just love it.
At the time of writing this it is currently Number 1 on iTunes and so I’m looking forward to seeing if it stays there for Sunday’s Top 40. With an album out in August too, things aren’t looking to shabby for Magic! We certainly haven’t given them a Rude welcome here in the UK! (Ha. See what I did there?!)
Ok I’m rolling my eyes too having read that back so why not have a butchers at the video on You Tube below and pop over to iTunes if you love it as much as me?
Go on. It sounds fab in this awesome sunshine.
