We hear the word all the time. “Show some respect”. “Respect others”. What what does it mean, really?
Look it up in the dictionary and you’ll see “a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.” This will be followed by synonyms such as “politeness” and “courtesy”. It is certainly a value that is considered important, but if this is the case, why do we sadly not see so much of it as we would like?

There are all kinds of respect and all kinds of different situations that we should show respect. This can be in personal relationships, professional relationships and casual relationships. Each person that we come into contact with deserves respect, even if they might not show it to you. Lead by example and you are more likely to receive it in return.
There will be times in your life that no matter how much respect you show to others, that you will not necessarily get it in return and it’s at these times that you might need to consider how to move forward with that person or whether you even should.
Obviously, when it comes to children, it is our duty to teach them respect and guide them in the right direction, this isn’t a situation that you can walk away from, but when it’s adults who are old enough to know better, and despite numerous attempts to resolve the situation, when should you consider enough is enough?
