Taking A Leap & Changing Jobs!

Taking A Leap & Changing Jobs!

It’s been quite a year for us as a family. I mentioned recently in my blog post Is It Possible To Please Everybody? that we didn’t have the easiest of starts and that things have been stressful in every sense of the word, but as the weeks and months have gone on, things seem to be turning a corner so I now feel more comfortable in sharing one of the more positive parts of the year.

Last month I made quite a big decision. I had been in my old job since the Little Man was nine months old. He was six in December! So, for the last five and a half years, I have had consistency, familiarity and job security – something that all families need. I enjoyed my job – I worked with a lovely bunch of people and made some great friends. The hours were perfect and I know that I was good at what I did. That may sound big-headed but it’s not. I managed to get myself a job in the place where I worked managing social media and that was purely because of what I did here on this blog and on my own social channels. I was proud of myself and what I had achieved.

But the thing is, sometimes opportunities come your way and they may scare you and excite you all at the same time. This is what happened to me. And I didn’t have a clue what to do!

I was offered a position in an up and coming Marketing Agency. I knew the people and the job sounded incredible but I was scared. What if it didn’t work out? What if I didn’t like it? What if I wasn’t good enough?

I think if I’m honest, the latter question is the one that was hanging over me the most. What if I wasn’t good enough? Self-doubt has always been an issue with me. I’ve never been hugely confident and being an introvert I always keep myself to myself. It’s just the way I am. So putting myself out there, going into a new city, a new place with new people doing a new job was the scariest thought.

It came at a time when things were a bit up in the air at home too. My husband was made redundant at the end of January and we weren’t sure whether his Personal Training business was going to take off. Everything seemed like such a risk and I didn’t know what to do.

But then something suddenly clicked in me. I actually said the words to myself ‘it’s now or never’! I have worked hard over the last five years building this little corner of the internet and making it work for me. It’s brought me and the family some ‘pocket money’ and above everything else it’s given me experience. That experience got me that first job and that ever changing experience got me this job offer – I owed it to myself to give myself the opportunity I deserved. So I did.

I said yes to the job and now three weeks in, I can honestly say that I am so pleased I did. I love it. The people are fantastic. The job is interesting and exciting. No day is the same and I get to be creative on a daily basis – something which I thrive on!

(In other news, my husband got a new job too and I couldn’t be prouder of him. He’s had a tough few months too).

Life throws us curveballs. It’s more than a rollercoaster. It’s a scary ride at times and sometimes you don’t know how you’re going to get through the tougher times, but we always do. Sometimes you just have to grab life by the balls and run with it. No matter how scary it can be. I’m not usually one for taking risks but this time something in my gut told me to, and I really think everything is going to be okay.
