Is It Possible To Please Everybody?

Life has been busy. I can’t deny that I have felt that my blog may have suffered because of it and something somebody said the other day made me think long and hard about how I have been running it. I’ve questioned myself, is it possible to please everybody?

A sketchy start to the year

2019 has been a bit of a rollercoaster so far. We lost our beloved kitten at five minutes to midnight on New Years Eve and it felt somewhat that it was the start of a sketchy few months. Not long after that, my husband found out he was at risk of redundancy. Shortly after that he was in a car accident on the way home from a football match. Thankfully he was not hurt but dealing with the car was an additional stress we didn’t need.

At the end of January, the news came that he had been selected for redundancy and so we have been dealing with that ever since. At the same time, I have been working hard to look after us all, mentally and physically. I have been working hard to keep the money rolling in and this includes paid work on this blog. I’m not ashamed to admit that I have monetized this little space on the internet and it brings us the little extras in life. Perhaps that we have taken for granted in the past. But whilst I’ve been doing this, I have struggled to find the time to keep this little space personal too.

My blog choices

There haven’t been any family updates, because quite frankly. I haven’t wanted to write it all down. Until now. The time feels right to put something more personal out there. To say ‘hello, I’m still here’. I haven’t deserted this little corner of the internet and I still care about the content I’m producing.

I should point out that life isn’t bad – it’s just been busy! I suppose along the way I lost my writing mojo but it’s creeping back. I can feel it.

We have had good news this year! I start a new job this week – something that is exciting yet incredibly scary all at the same time. More on that in a few weeks. I want to see how it goes first. But I’m hoping a little train travel a couple of times a week will give me more time to connect with you guys on this kind of level.

One story I will share with you soon is my weight loss journey. So far this year I have lost a stone and a half in weight. Something I am super proud of. Watch this space for the full story soon. Promise!

In other news, we have just returned home from a fabulous holiday in Tenerife – of which you can read about here. And my gorgeous Sister has recently touched down in the land of Oz for a six-week jaunt. I’m missing her already but know she will have an incredible time.

So, can you please everybody?

The title of this post though? Is it possible to please everybody? I guess it came from the comment that was made about this blog. No, it hasn’t been very personal recently, but there are reasons and they are reasons that I don’t need to justify to anyone. I choose to blog because I want to and what I put out there is my choice. I don’t have to tell everyone everything, and if that doesn’t please you then, you are free to move along. In the nicest possible way.

But those of you who stay, I thank you. I have taken it on board and I will be more present here. But on my terms. And I think that is more than acceptable. And no, you can’t please everybody. But what of it?

Jaki, ignore her. Your blog is amazing whether it’s paid posts or not.
Some people don’t understand the struggle of redundancy both physically, financially and mentally.
Keeping doing what is right for you and your family. Fuck everyone else and their unimportant opinions.

Wow! That’s a lot of weight. Congratulations. As for your sister – let her know that VIVID starts soon in mid May but if she’s out of Sydne before that, she needs to catch Babu Gili – it’s free nightly on the inside sale of the Opera House. Also Sculpture at Scenic World in the Blue Mountains is on until the 15th May, so again, if heading to check all that out, before the 15th is good. Sydney comedy festival is on for the next few weeks – she can catch acts for $20 and the Factory is a fun precinct and the Enmore is in Newtown, which is a good part of Sydney to check out. And Whale season starts on the 17th and you can get cheap deals on Cudo/Groupon (if she wants a boat trip out the heads.).

Of course you can’t please everybody. This is all about you and that’s how it should be. You keep doing what you’re doing and what’s right for you and your family. If that means a break here and there then so be it. We’ll all still be here with our support.

Well done on the blog, the job, your husband getting better, you finding the strength to get through it all and all the rest of the silver linings. No, you can’t please everybody, but who cares? As long as you and your family are doing what is right for you, stuff ’em. #triumphanttales

The only person you can please is yourself. Just my thinking.Too many people think that they are owed things when you try to please them. Just my humble view. #TriumphantTales

I don’t know who has said something about your blog but I have always enjoyed reading your posts. Sometimes there is more paid work than other weeks and that is just the way it is. How you manage to post as often as you do with everything going on is beyond me! You do you and ignore the negativity! #TriumphantTales

You can’t please everyone. There is always someone who thinks you should be doing things differently. You blog about what you want, it’s your blog. I will still come and read it. I have not posted many personal posts lately, I have been going through a depression and don’t feel like writing about it right now, I will do in the future. Good luck with the new job.
