What Does The Future Office Look Like?

What Does The Future Office Look Like?

I’ve been working in offices for the best part of sixteen years. I dread to think how long that works out that I’ve been sat at a desk, let alone how many words I’ve typed – it doesn’t bear thinking about! It is safe to say though, that over the years, offices have changed somewhat.

When I first started spending my days sat staring at a computer screen, things were very traditional, perhaps now you might say, old fashioned. But that is only because times and trends change. And whilst our homes are ever-changing and becoming more modern, so are our office spaces.

Citation HR services have put together this really cool infographic that is packed full of information of what some experts think a future office could look like. I found it fascinating. Let’s take a look at it a little bit closer.

What Does The Future Office Look Like?

I can’t help but think that some of the ideas on here are a little farfetched, I mean a holographic meeting room seems like something you might see on Star Trek, but certainly, a lot of the ideas on this infographic are really quite feasible.

Work from anywhere – I know this is already possible. I have worked for a company for the last few years that offers amazing flexibility in that remote working is the norm. By utilizing server virtualization, you can connect from anywhere using an internet connection and it completely revolutionises working life. It offers parents the flexibility that they need and encourages a very happy work-life balance. The Managing Director had this vision 22 years ago and he wasn’t wrong. More and more companies are adopting this approach and in my opinion, it can only be a good thing. After all colocation and cloud services such as those provided by 4D Data Centres can also provide businesses with cost-saving and reputation-protecting resiliency.

Breakout room – Breakout rooms are a great idea. When you spend so many hours in the same place, a change of scenery is of paramount importance. Not only for your own sanity but if you are in a creative job for example, somewhere to go like a breakout room can be the change that you need to find inspiration. Great ideas come to us when we least expect it. A breakout area that has a gym and interactive games whilst at the same time a company offering flexible working could be the perfect combination to get the best out of the staff.

Fingerprint software – Personally I think this is highly possible. You only have to look at the most up-to-date smartphones that offer security by fingerprint and eye recognition. In time this will transfer to the office and computers and phones will have the same software capabilities. The same applies to secure access into buildings.

Highspeed slide – Quite possibly my favourite section on the entire infographic. Can you imagine going out to lunch by taking the slide instead of the lift? How much more carefree would work feel if you could do this? Just by injecting a little bit of fun into the working day you could have a very happy team of staff. A few years ago this would have sounded ridiculous, but if Google HQ can do it, who says no one else can?

What do you think that the future of the office looks like? Perhaps you have a favourite idea from the infographic. Let me know in the comments.
