For The Love Of Cars

I can remember when I was younger hearing my parents say ‘the minute you get a car, you’ll never have any money’! I can also remember wondering how on earth you can afford one if this was the case. Of course, it’s not strictly true. But it is true that they can be costly, and of course, this is the message my parents were trying to get through to me. That it’s important to always have some money saved away to use towards car expenses if and when you need it.

First car

I have been driving for eighteen years this year. I remember my first car like it was yesterday. I passed my driving test on Friday, 13th July (I know, right?!) and within a couple of weeks was the proud owner of a little red Vauxhall Corsa. She was my pride and joy. My very first car and I had her for a good few years before it was time for us to part ways.

Pride and joy

My next car was a brand new Peugeot 207. I can’t tell you the joy I had in collecting that car and it meant everything to me. I worked hard to pay for it and the only reason I parted with it is that it was petrol and my job circumstances changed, meaning I had to travel further and it just wasn’t cost effective. I needed to buy a diesel so me and my little blue Peugeot had to say goodbye. I leased that car to make it affordable and it was great. Car leasing is a fantastic way to get the newest car in the most affordable way, I really do recommend it.

Sad goodbye

My next car was my first family car. I say family car but it was only a Ford Fiesta. But it had 5 doors – bought purposefully in case we ever had a child! And thank goodness we did because it was the very first car my little boy had a journey in when we brought him home from the hospital all those years ago. I loved that car and was more than gutted when just two years ago it got written off whilst it was parked outside of my house. All down to someone else’s very careless driving. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to that car and was forced into finding a replacement in a short space of time.

I now have a 5 door Peugeot 208 and whilst it’s a nice car, I just haven’t clicked with it. I miss my Fiesta – especially on those frosty mornings when I have no heated windscreen!

I’m not alone in my love of the Ford Fiesta. Did you know that it is one of the most photographed cars on Instagram? Along with the Jeep Wrangler, Honda Civic, Ford Focus and Mazda 3.

Tyre City have produced this amazing infographic not only detailing the top 10 most Instagrammed cars but also full of tips for how to best photograph your car if you want to show it off.

Don’t forget it’s not all about appearances though. At this time of year, it’s of paramount importance to make sure that your car is safe on the roads. You should get a brake check, along with making sure your tyres are legal. You should also check your oil levels and windscreen wipers. Driving in the winter is bad enough with a car that’s in tip-top condition, so make sure you check everything before setting off on your journey.

So now you know how to photograph your car like a pro and make sure your car is safe on the road – you can really enjoy it. Hopefully, you will love your car as much as I loved mine.
