A divorce is a serious life-changing event. Even if ending the marriage was in your best interest, it can still leave you feeling lonely, depressed, overwhelmed, and wondering how to pick up the pieces and start anew. Though it is estimated that one in two marriages end in divorce, which means you are not alone, this information may do little to comfort you. And often, after ending a marriage, well-meaning friends and family will tell you that the best thing to do is to get yourself back up and brush yourself off. However, this advice might do little to help, either.
You might be wondering if you will feel as downtrodden as you do right now. The good news is that you won’t. It might take some time, but eventually, you will start to put the pieces of your life back together, figure out how to move on without your ex, and feel even happier than you have ever felt before. But how do you do that? Here are some helpful tips to help you bounce back after your divorce.
Make Plans with Loved Ones
One of the biggest issues that new divorcees face is feelings of loneliness. When you’re used to being part of a couple, it can be tough figuring out how to adjust. To help ease your feelings of loneliness, make plans with your friends and family, and make them often. Ask your loved ones to come to your house, go to theirs, or go out somewhere together!
Sell Your Ring
It might sound harsh, but it can actually be incredibly beneficial. When you sell your ring, you will let go of the excess baggage that’s attached to it. You’ll let go of the memories that are associated with your proposal, your wedding day, and the time you spent with your spouse. As the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. Selling your ring will definitely help you bounce back quicker after your divorce.
Enjoy Time With Yourself
Humans are co-dependent, which is one of the reasons why divorce can be so tough. However, while relationships are important, just as important is the relationship you have with yourself. Take the time to invest in yourself and find out who you are. You may have lost your identity in your marriage; you may want to reinvent your identity for this new chapter in your life. By doing things that you enjoy alone, you can really focus on getting back up on your feet and making yourself better – and happier. Some suggestions: try meditating, doing yoga, or even going for walks. You might be amazed to find out how truly awesome you are when you spend quality time with yourself!
Start a Journal
It might sound childish, but a journal can be an incredibly powerful tool for helping you sort through challenging situations, such as a divorce. Write down how you are feeling. Don’t hold back. Nobody is going to read it but you. You could really find out some interesting insight about yourself, your relationship, and other important information that you could use to get over the hump of a new divorce.
Get a Makeover
When you look good, you feel good. Treat yourself to a makeover. Go on a shopping spree. Get a new hairstyle. Get your nails done. Start working out to give your body a new look, too. Your new look will do wonders for your mood, making you not only look like a new person, but feel like one, too!
By following these tips, you’ll be able to move past your divorce and start on the next chapter of your life quicker than you ever thought possible!
