Time For Some Winter Glamour

It’s no secret here on my blog that I am all for being ‘more than just a Mum’. I have discussed in the past my love of all things beauty and my need to keep this side of me alive and kicking whilst still doing the most important job in the world – being a Mum. Christmas is the perfect time of year to remember who you are and what better way than to inject a bit of winter glamour into your life?

I can’t leave the house without makeup on. I have no shame in admitting this. It’s who I am. So I am always keen to keep a close eye on the latest trends. It’s very easy to get stuck in a rut in terms of wearing the same things each day, and keeping the same hairstyle. Since I’ve been a Mum I’ve had my fair share of different hairstyles and I’m so pleased I’ve managed to keep a bit of focus on myself. It’s so easy to forget that we are people too.

My nails have been my pride and joy for years. I used to bite them years ago but since I overcame the awful habit, they have become ‘my thing’. Whilst I do paint them myself from time to time, in between appointments, I always like to go and get them done properly and it’s always advisable, especially if it’s a special occasion for a wedding or a Christmas party. There’s nothing like being pampered in the salon chair and coming out with pretty nails. Not to forget it’s far less stressful!

Over the last couple of years I have been more adventurous with my chosen nail designs and upon investigation, I was thrilled to see one of the latest trends are right up my street.

Time For Some Winter Glamour

Gold is huge this season. Gold chrome, gold glitter, you name it, if you can get it in gold, you can get it for your fingernails. I was having difficulty choosing my ‘Christmas nails’ for this year, but writing this post has given me some serious inspiration.Time For Some Winter Glamour

I also love nude colours too, which are also on trend. You could even combine the two for seriously pretty nails. You’ll be sure to sparkle at the office Christmas party!

The red lip has become my signature lip colour over the last twelve months and of course, it’s on trend. How can it ever go out of style? It’s timeless.

A lot of women think they can’t wear red lipstick when really this just isn’t true. You just need to find the right red for you. whether it has orange undertones or blue. There will be a colour that suits you. If you’ve always wanted to but never felt brave enough, I can’t recommend it enough. It brightens up any look and can really make you feel nice and glam with hardly any effort.

Mums, don’t be ashamed of your Mum Bun anymore! The updo is bang on trend this season! If you’re like me (my hair isn’t always cascading curls, I do have lazy days too!) and love a good old messy updo then this one is for you. Messy top knots are fairly easy to do but your local salon or hairdresser will show you the easiest ways to acheive this look. It’s a skill you’ll use over and over again when you know how.

Whilst I do like to be glam, I don’t go all out with eye makeup on a day to day basis. But I’m pleased to see my favourite going out look is back this season. The smokey eye is a bit like the red lip. It’s timeless and looks fabulous on a night out. You don’t need to use blacks and greys if you feel they are too dark. You can use browns, coppers and silvers and they will all achieve a stunning smokey look. It’s always worth a visit to the beautician who will gladly advise you which colours would suit you.

My other top tip is eyelashes. This is a relatively new thing for me. Back in the summer, I discovered lash extensions. Mascara was always my go to make up product. Without it, I look so tired. It was always a faff in the morning and I used to poke myself in the eye so many times by applying it in a hurry. I no longer have that problem. I have eyelash extensions and I love them. My eyes look lovely all the time and it’s cut my ‘getting ready’ time down no end! I couldn’t recommend them enough! Make sure you find a recommended and trusted technician and always get a glue test 24 hours before.

Bring on the winter glamour

I am so in the mood to get dressed up and go out now after discovering all these great trends are so me. I just need to find a party to go to now! If not, it will be a Christmas day full of winter glamour!

What are your favourite trends? Do you like a red lip and smokey eye or are you more a natural girl? Perhaps you like getting your nails done like me? Let me know in the comments.

I’ve only had my nails done once in my life (for my wedding) and it was a disaster so I’ve never bothered since, but I would quite like to give it another go. I’m much more of a natural girl and rarely even wear makeup. I do enjoy getting all glammed up for a special occasion or rare night out though.
