8 Reasons To Love Winter

8 Reasons To Love Winter

A couple of months ago I was loving Autumn. All those crunchy leaves and everything else that comes with all things brown and orange. Now we have reached December and I’m a firm believer in no matter what your favourite season is, you need to embrace the one that you are in, in order to have the best time possible. A cold Winter is no different. If you’re not much of a fan, I’m here to convince you that there are reasons to love Winter. Keep reading.

The sunrise

I mean. If you haven’t seen one for yourself yet this year, you only need to scroll through Facebook to see what you are missing. Anyone who is anyone is posting photographs of how beautiful the sun looks on a cold and frosty morning. If you get a chance, take a look one morning because they are simply stunning and are a great way to start your day.

Snuggling up warm inside

Is there anything nicer than knowing you have nowhere to go when it’s cold outside? Grab some blankets, put a film on and enjoy a cosy night inside. Go the whole hog and dig out your fluffiest socks too. Forget fighting with the cold on a night out. This is my favourite way to spend an evening in Winter.

Winter clothes

I don’t know about you but I love nothing more than digging out my comfiest pair of boots and my cosiest jumpers – if it’s a Christmas one, even better! I’m obsessed with scarves so throw on one of those on top of a cosy coat and there is nothing nicer. Complete the cute look with a complimentary Winter bobble hat and you’re good to go.

SNOW!

With a bit of luck, we will see a bit of snow this year. Now I do love the snow when it isn’t too disruptful. One snow day is okay, especially if it means we get an unexpected day off work and school, but anything more and it gets a bit much. I especially don’t like it when the roads are hazardous and even worse if you happen to lose power at home. It’s worth thinking about getting some portable back up power in the form of a generator, like those sold by SGS Engineering. At least this way you can enjoy the snow, safe in the knowledge you can still have the luxuries of home if something goes wrong with your power supply.

Hot drinks with cake

What other time of year is it completely acceptable to indulge in hot chocolate and marshmallows followed by mince pie or slab of sticky cake? If hot chocolate isn’t your thing, winter warming drinks are ten a penny at the moment, from Gingerbread Lattes to Toffee Nut Crunch lattes. All of the big chains go all out, so you can enjoy a festive feeling in the form of a tummy-warming treat. You don’t get that pleasure in the warmer months.

Late night shopping

Even if, like me, you like to do your Christmas shopping online where you can find the best deals, there is something quite special about walking around the shops of an evening. If you are lucky there will be a Christmas market to wander around whilst Christmas songs are playing. I have fond memories of this as a child. I highly recommend doing this when your Christmas shopping is complete as you can enjoy the atmosphere without the stress of shopping. It’s a great way to get into the Christmas spirit.

Christmas

If there is no other reason than to embrace Winter it’s to enjoy Christmas. It’s the perfect time of year to take a break wherever possible. I am very lucky in that I get the whole of Christmas off and this year I thoroughly intend on making the most of the time off. I can’t wait to spend some downtime at home with my family after a very busy few weeks this Winter.

New Year

Admittedly, not everyone is a fan of the New Year. I have to say, I’m not. But I do like to look at it as a fresh start and it’s great for the mindset. It’s not my favourite night of the year, but I like to turn it into a positive and now the husband and I treat it as a date night. A few drinks, some board games with something entertaining on in the background. It’s my perfect start to the New Year.

So, you see there are plenty of reasons to love Winter. You just have to find the best in everything. And even if you are still not a fan, it is just a season and pretty soon we’ll be complaining how warm we are again!

How about you? Do you like Winter, or are you counting down the days until the lighter nights and the warmer days? Let me know in the comments.
