Escape For Winter – My Dream Winter Home

January went on for what felt like twenty years and the ever-present cold is becoming tiring. At least that’s how I feel. I don’t think I’ve warmed up since that first snowfall we had back in early December. I’ve been wearing jumpers with vests (yes, really!) every day and my heating has been on permanently.

Despite getting a little fed up with the cold, it’s also the perfect chance to get cosy at home. There’s nothing nicer than snuggling up on the sofa under a few blankets when it’s freezing cold outside. I’ve been thinking about where and what my dream Winter home would be like. My imagination has gone a little crazy!

A Dream ‘Holiday’ Home

I have to be honest, that little cottage in The Holiday is idyllic. It’s close enough to civilisation but it’s far enough away from hustle and bustle to relax. It’s Christmas card perfection too, isn’t it? (Oh dear, it’s only February and I’ve already muttered the ‘C’ word. Forgive me). I just think a little home like this cottage is perfect for being cosy in, in the Winter. Complete with open fire, of course.

Welcoming And Inviting

I think my dream Winter home would have lovely warm, welcoming decor. Rich colours and possibly lots of books on shelves. Maybe even a whole wall of them. I would have a big open fireplace complete with roaring fire and a big bucket of wood chopped ready for the fire next to it.

Comfort Is A Must

The ultimate in comfort is a sumptuous sofa. We recently bought a new sofa and it is super comfy. I prefer material over leather these days (leather was a must with a small child). It’s just so much more welcoming (and you don’t get stuck to it!)

My dream Winter home would have a couple of big sofas, possibly an armchair and lots of throws and cushions. I’m all about the cushions!

All About The Cosy

The living room is the one place in the house that just has to be warm and welcoming. It needs to be comfy enough to lounge around in during the cold evenings. I’m a big believer that the right kind of soft furnishings play a huge part it turning a room from cold to warm. My dream Winter home would have cushions like the ones on the Julian Charles website. They have a  stunning crushed velvet selection that is just dreamy.

Scented Candlelight

I’m going through a phase of loving candles at the moment. I’m a big fan of the Yankee Candle so I would definitely have a wintery scent in my dream Winter home. I’d probably pick something like Winter Glow or Snow In Love. Both are amazing and would really add something special. There’s nothing like walking into a house that smells divine, you feel at home instantly.

My Dream Winter Home

So whilst the snow is piling up outside, I’ll be the one tucked up in my cosy little cottage with the fire burning and the candles flickering. Of course, in dreamland, I will have nowhere to go and so I won’t mind the snow. The snow also won’t affect my electricity supply, satellite reception or wifi signal either, so all will be well….

Well come on, this is dreamland after all!

What is your dream Winter home? Is it anything like mine or do you have some ideas I can steal? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to read them.
