Ways To Relax And Enjoy Some 'Me Time'

We live in a busy world and many of us are dashing and darting around on a daily basis with hardly any time to take a breath. Taking time out for ourselves is important and should be scheduled into our daily lives as much as the next task.

A lot of the time we can get so caught up in doing things for other people, it can be difficult to know what to do for ourselves when we get the time. If you too are struggling for ideas, I have come up with 5 ways to relax and enjoy some ‘me time’.

Treat yourself

Whilst it’s lovely going shopping with friends, sometimes you just can’t beat having a splurge on yourself, by yourself. Taking the time to not be in a rush and have a good browse can be really therapeutic. You can even take in a few coffee breaks along the way and enjoy a peaceful lunch. We all work hard and deserve a treat from time to time. If you don’t like the hustle and bustle of the shops, why not sit and browse the internet for a well-earned treat? Whether you are looking to buy yourself a new pair of shoes or the latest in TV Beds, shopping online can be a really relaxing experience when it’s done in your own time.

Take up a new hobby

Have you had something that you have always wanted to do and you’ve never had the time to do it? Perhaps you wish you could take up gardening or photography, or knitting or painting? Well, this could be the perfect time to do something for you. Not only that, but when you have something fun to look forward to, it will give you the motivation to plan more ‘me time’ for yourself in the future. If you’re not sure what you want to do, take a look at these 10 hobbies that cost little or no money.

Learn To Play A Musical Instrument

You can also get some much-needed downtime by learning to play a musical instrument (or taking one up again that you played in the past).

Playing music is something that you can do for enjoyment. It takes your mind off the past and future and forces you to focus on the present.

If you need a little boost, then you can always get online music lessons. Lean back into it naturally. It doesn’t matter if you make the odd mistake here and there.

Read a book

If you are anything like me, you will love reading but never find the time. The perfect way to get reading into your day is to begin with writing a list of books that you want to read. Follow this up with a reading challenge. You could try tasking yourself to read ten pages a day. If you can read more than this, then that’s a bonus. Soon enough you will have finished your first book and feel better for taking just a few minutes a day for yourself.

Have a duvet day

This is one of my favourites, I have to admit. On the rare occasions that I get a whole day to myself, I will gladly stay in bed all day and just watch daytime tv or boxsets on Netflix. It’s my idea of bliss. Imagine your duvet day complete with that fancy TV Bed you bought yourself, perhaps with a box of chocolates to go with it and the whole day to watch what you want when you want to watch it – complete ownership of the remote control. This is my perfect idea of ‘me time’!

Go for a long drive

If I can’t get peace and quiet at home then I love to get in my car, turn my music up very loud and go for a drive. Ideally, it will be a day where the roads are dry and the sun is shining, but playing junction roulette is one of my favourite things to do – who knows where you will end up! There’s just something so relaxing and thrilling about driving alone, with the windows down and the music up.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure you do something. Spending time to unwind and focus on yourself is as important as looking after those around you. Put yourself first for once. You deserve it.

How do you like to spend your ‘me time’? Let me know in the comments.
