Trick yourself into confidence

For those who have bags of confidence, this post isn’t for you! However, if you are in need of a little more pep in your step and a confidence boost, then read on.

Why do we need confidence?

We all have different levels of confidence, but when you have a little more, you are more likely to accept and enjoy opportunities. People with low or no confidence will step back from new jobs, new friends, and anything that might feel out of their comfort zone.

Not only that, but it is confidence that will help us dust ourselves off and try something again too.

The benefits of confidence are:

  • Increased resilience
  • Better mental health and personal relationships
  • Better decision making
  • Increased sense of well-being and happiness
  • Better performance in work and other tasks
  • Reduce fear of failure

How can you trick your brain into feeling a little more confident?

Posture

People who don’t feel comfortable will often slump a little or tuck limbs into themselves so that they don’t take up any space. Those who have watched Grey’s Anatomy might recall the episode where they stand like Beyonce so that they can increase their confidence.

Posture and posing can be two of the biggest players in tricking yourself into feeling more confident.

Stand like Superman, tall, straight back, feet shoulder-width apart, and hands on hips – then look up!

Smile

Yes! That is right; the same tip that can be used to trick your brain into feeling happier can also work on your confidence too. Typically if you smile, people will smile back at you – and it leaves you in a slightly lifted mood.

But for some people, their smile is a source of anxiety – but almost anything dental can be fixed up by Whites Dental, leaving you with a smile that you love.

Practice smiling in the mirror until it becomes second nature.

Energy

Do small things have a huge impact on you? Small things leave you feeling stressed, worried, and tired. It is time to reframe those feelings – and it is something that you’ll need to do at the moment.

When you notice that you have nervous feelings or are getting stressed -, try to look at another way and channel the energy into being excited instead.

Not only that, but when it comes to confidence, people less often shrink down their enjoyment and joy – instead start to embrace these feelings more. You should talk yourself into it until it becomes second nature.

Visualisation

What would you be doing right now if you were confident? Would you be applying for those work roles? Would you be drinking coffee somewhere alone? Perhaps you’d be sharing your art.

Whatever it is, start to visualize it because the more we can picture ourselves doing something, the more comfortable and confident we will feel when it happens.

Be nice

To yourself! Be nice to you. One of the biggest things that people with high confidence do is be nice to themselves. They are proud of what they do, how they do it, and why.

The exact opposite is seen in people with low confidence. So, instead of talking down to yourself – start speaking more highly of yourself and what you do.
