If you are a follower of me on Instagram you will have likely seen that my timeline has been somewhat brighter and sunnier than usual. I am lucky enough to have spent the first half of the school Easter holidays in sunny Tenerife and so I thought I would mark the occasion by sharing a few of my holiday snaps here on the blog.

My husband has been visiting Tenerife with his family for many years and it is the first place we ever went to on holiday together. In fact, it was at the very same resort that he proposed to me ten years ago! We have been back many times since, but only once with the Little Man and that was five years ago. He wasn’t even walking properly and so we were very excited to return this year with my in-laws and lots of other family and friends.

It was a real treat to get some sunshine after a bit of a cold and damp start to the year. The Little Man had lots of other little people to play with and it was strange to have a holiday where he didn’t need me every second of the day. It was a bit of a reality check if I’m honest. It made me realise that now he is getting older, that this is a sign of things to come. There weren’t many days where he was out of the swimming pool for long and he seemed to grow up a lot whilst we were there.

Of course, as any other holiday with a child/children, it didn’t come without its challenges and times he had us doubting our own sanity. But it’s too easy to focus on the negative. It’s far more important to focus on the positive and the joy he brings just by being healthy and smiling.

We enjoyed many an hour beside the pool and several wonderful meals out in the evening. The husband and I even managed a date night on the last night thanks to his lovely Mum and Dad babysitting for us. (Should it even be called babysitting at 6 years old?!). It was nice to get out for a couple of hours without the stresses of parenting taking over. And important too.

We really didn’t want to come and it’s always sad when holidays are over. I always get ridiculously emotional and start mentally planning the next one in my head! We really hope to be able to return next year. Isn’t it funny how places that are so far away can quickly begin to feel like a home away from home?

So long, Tenerife, we love you! We will see you again soon.
