My Perfect Holiday Moment

My Perfect Holiday Moment

My husband and I will have been a couple for ten years this coming June. TEN years! The time has gone so fast and it’s really hard to believe that so many years have gone by since we first met and got together. We had our first perfect holiday together within seven months and getting together and whilst most couples first holiday together is memorable, ours was for quite a different reason.

We jetted off to Tenerife in January 2009. Or first holiday together was somewhere I had never been before and to get away to the beautiful Canary sunshine in the midst of a cold Winter was perfect enough in itself. It was also my (now) husband’s 24th birthday while we were out there so we were very much looking forward to it.

I had no idea what was to happen on that holiday. It was our first time away together and I was just very much looking forward to being away in a lovely warm country, getting to spend lots of time with my boyfriend, who I was smitten with. We weren’t living together at that point, so to have all that time was going to be wonderful.

The birthday celebrations went ahead as expected. A day in the sunshine followed by a lovely meal in the evening and a few drinks to celebrate. It wasn’t until later that night that something happened that would change us forever. I’ll let the pictures tell the story.

That’s right. My then boyfriend took to the stage in the bar at the hotel we were staying at, took the microphone, proceeded to tell the everyone in the bar that night how wonderful was and then he got down on one knee and proposed to me, right there, in front of everyone.

Didn’t this kind of thing only happen in films? Well, clearly not because it was happening to me and I can honestly say, hand on heart, it is something that I will never forget.

The bar staff knew all about it and thankfully, got photographic evidence of it all. As you can see. (It’s a good job as the Mr went on to drink copious amounts of alcohol afterwards and probably doesn’t remember much of the rest of the night!). I’m, so grateful to have these pictures to keep for years to come. It’s such a perfect holiday memory to look back on. We’ve had many holiday gems in the past, but this is definitely up there as one of the most perfectly memorable.

We came home from the holiday and searched for a home together. We moved in together a month later. We were married just over two years later and eighteen months after that we welcomed our gorgeous little boy into the world. We had a really eventful few years and it all started in those pictures up there. So, it’s understandable why this perfect holiday moment is so special to us.

What a special holiday that was. We had some winter sun in Tenerife last December and the exciting big part for us was just relaxing by the pool #TriumphantTales

What a special holiday! My husband and I weren’t able to take our honeymoon as planned because we got pregnant the minute we got married. We’re finally going off in January when our little one will be 2 and I’m hoping it’s a wonderful holiday!

What a sweet story! And so great that you have photos. 🙂 My husband proposed at the pumpkin patch a year after our first date there. Now it’s one of our most important family traditions.

Aww what a lovely holiday memory. My hubby and I had barely met before we went abroad to meet a friend in Copenhagen. That was one risky holiday but it worked out for all concerned. #TriumphantTales
