Your family’s health is likely to be something that you’re always going to be concerned about. It’s important that you’re doing everything you can to stay on top of your health, as well as helping ensure everyone in the family is also being looked after.

From nutrition and eating habits, to getting plenty of exercise and attending all the necessary medical appointments required. There’s a lot that you could be doing to help take care of your family’s health this year.

When it comes to healthy habits, what you put into your body is important to be aware of. Emphasizing whole foods, for example, is making sure to prioritize a diet that’s rich in vegetables, whole grains, fruit,s and lean proteins.

Encourage your children to eat a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables to ensure a diverse vitamin intake.

Where possible, try to reduce processed foods, limiting items that are going to be high in fat, sugar, and salt. It’s good to use the 5-2-1-0 rule when it comes to your kids. Five servings of fruit/veg, two hours or less of screen time, one hour of physical activity, and 0 sugary drinks.

To help with eating habits, involve children in the planning and cooking of meals. This can help foster better and healthier relationships with food. Always stay hydrated and encourage everyone to drink water throughout the day.

Physical activity and movement

Daily movement is important for everyone to do to get the body moving and the blood pumping.

Daily movement should be for around sixty minutes every day for children and one hundred and fifty minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week for adults.

Try to make time with the family to do activities and make those exercises fun for every family member. From hiking to biking, swimming, and playing in the park together.

Preventative care and safety

Preventive care is always something that’s important to help family health. Regular checkups are a good way to help catch any potential issues. Think about what regular appointments are required, like hearing checkups, for example.

By getting checked regularly, you can address any hearing problems sooner and find resolutions, whether that’s to find hearing aids or just make preventive changes to how you treat your ear health.

Staying up to date on vaccines and taking daily supplements is a good way to keep on top of your health in general.

Mental and emotional health

With your mental and health wellbeing, it’s important to encourage best practices for the family. Prioritize sleep establishing a consistent and relaxing bedtime routine.

Manage your stress with simple relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or spending more time in nature. Practice gratitude where you can, encouraging daily, small, and consistent habits.

Taking care of your family’s health is important, so use these tips to help your own wellbeing and that of your loved ones this year.
