Nothing beats some quality family time, and we’ve found one of the most enjoyable things we can do is snuggle up with a film one night at the weekend.
Taking it in turns to pick what we watch, we all enjoy embarking on new adventures with our favourite characters and meeting new ones along the way too.
So to help you plan the perfect DVD night with your family, here’s our pick of some of the best family films available from HMV:
This Disney flick quickly took over thanks to its stellar soundtrack and fantastic story. It’s perfect for a little girl power (this heroine doesn’t need a prince to come and rescue her) and will soon have you all singing along to the music.
This classic Steven Spielberg film tells the story of an extra-terrestrial who finds himself stranded on Earth. As a parent, you’ll love the nostalgic twist this offers you, while your little ones will soon fall in love with E.T. and his charming ways. Do bear in mind that unedited versions feature some mild swearing – not to mention some sad moments that’ll have you all reaching for the tissues.
The Greatest Showman
One of the latest releases available from HMV is The Greatest Showman, making this one of the best new films to watch with the rest of your family. It tells the story of a man who’s struggling to keep a roof over his family’s head so decides to create his own show business – a travelling circus. It’s epic and it’s a must-see (numerous times!).
There are a few renditions of this film but the older ones are often the best. And this film’s ideal if the kids have started moaning about all the chores they have to do. One look at Annie’s life (at the start of the film) and they’ll thank their lucky stars! Plus, there are plenty of good tunes for you all to sing along to.
Finally, this is an all-time favourite of mine – and I hope it’ll become a favourite of my little boy’s too. We’re saving it for when he gets a bit older (the bad guys can be a little scary!) but this 80s classic is an absolute must for you and the kids, especially if you haven’t seen it before.
Featuring a story of friendship, treasure and plenty of other thrills and spills, it’s definitely one for the pile (we even watch it on our own – no kids needed!).
Sadly, I haven’t got space to go through each and every film our family treasures, but that’s the joy of developing this list – trying out new films you’ve never seen before and looking out for new favourites that’ll go down in history.
