Want to discover your passion in life?
If you’re stuck in the daily grind and you don’t feel like you have much to look forward to, perhaps it’s time to find your passion in life. After all, we are always told to “follow our hearts.” But often it isn’t as simple as that. Some people can spend most of their lives trying to work out what their passion is. In the meantime, they remain stuck in a boring and unfulfilling routine, desperate to find that special spark but unsure of where to start.
We’ve all been there at some point or another. Perhaps you’ve even reached the point of thinking that you don’t have a passion at all. Wrong! Everyone has a passion, it’s just a case of using the right techniques to find it. So, whether you harbour an undiscovered desire to be a barber, or you need a bit of coaching to uncover your passion for embroidery, follow these steps and you might just be amazed by what you find!
Is your passion right in front of you?
It can be easy to spend lots of time and money seeking out new experiences to discover a passion, but sometimes the answer can be a lot closer to home. Rather than thinking in broad terms and getting overwhelmed with the options, try to narrow your choices down a little. Our childhoods often hold the key to our passions. Think back to when you were younger and try to remember the things that you loved to spend your time doing. Whether it was reading, writing, painting, playing, learning, collecting, building or creating, the hours that you spent enjoying those activities might just be the foundations of your passion in life.
What do you like to study?
Some people love to spend hours and hours watching videos, reading or studying a particular subject. If you find yourself getting lost down a rabbit hole of a topic then perhaps this is something you want to explore in more detail. However trivial or silly it might seem, this is a great way to get a better understanding of your passion. You may even find more than one! Once you have an idea of what it is you like to learn about, enrol in an evening class or workshop and see if your passion lies in that area.
Seek inspiration from others
A good place to discover what it is that you love is by asking those around you. Your nearest and dearest have probably watched your face light up as you’ve enjoyed things in the past, so they are best placed to know what makes you tick. Ask around and see what you can come up with. You can also ask those who have found their passions already just how they came across them in the first place.
You might also find it beneficial to know how to find a life coach. In choosing a life coach you could enlist the help of a trained professional who can help and guide you to make, meet and exceed professional and personal goals. You’d get support on a journey to rediscover your own strength and abilities.
Let your passion evolve
When you’re seeking something that makes you excited to wake up in the morning, it can often lead to impatience. But, giving your passions time to evolve is an important step in discovering them. Sometimes it doesn’t just happen overnight. This is true of PSPC winner Ramón Colillas, who was working as a personal trainer when he was spotted playing poker by a professional. He was told to take up playing regularly, so he began to study the game alongside his full-time job. Several years of hard work and practice later, Ramón won the $5.1million prize in the PSPC competition enabling him to give up his day job and follow his dreams.
Don’t quit
If you feel as though you have been trying to find your passion forever and it still isn’t happening, don’t be disheartened. There is a big wide world out there with thousands of possibilities, you just haven’t found the right one for you yet. And that’s ok! Just keep signing up for classes, reading up on subjects you are interested in and checking things off your list of potential passions until you find one that clicks. It will happen! The fact that you’re even starting to look for one is a step in the right direction. Many people don’t even get that far. So be kind to yourself, this is a journey to find out more about you. It’s exciting!
Don’t forget to enjoy the ride. And when you find your passion – keep looking for others. You could end up with so many passions you don’t know what to do with them all!
