Five years into this parenting lark and I can happily admit that my perfect evening consists of my sofa, a gin and tonic and a good film or box set. Gone are the days where I’ll be hitting the town at 10 o’clock at night. These days I’m more likely to be slipping into my pyjamas instead of my stilettos and it really doesn’t bother me in the slightest. And it shouldn’t bother you either. Here are 5 reasons why staying in is the new going out.
There’s nothing quite like getting hooked on the latest series on Netflix or Amazon. Curl up, get comfy, switch the tv on and that’s your night sorted. Your tv experience these days can be second to none thanks to the quality of HD televisions, Panasonic, in particular, have the best technology available to make your home cinema experience the best possible. Who needs to go out to the cinema when you can have it all at home? The popcorn is cheaper too!
No taxis or designated driver!
You can have a drink and don’t have to waste money on a taxi. Whilst I am not here to encourage excessive drinking. There is no harm in a tipple of your choice in your own home. The kids are in bed, it’s been a long day. Pour yourself a drink and kick back. Safe in the knowledge that you don’t have anywhere to be or anything to do. Invite your friends around if it’s the socialising you’re missing. There are many things you can do at home. Have a games night or a good old gossip. Get them to bring a bottle and away you go. Mines a Bombay Sapphire!
Eating in is just as fun
Instead of spending a fortune on a meal out, get creative in the kitchen with your significant other. Have some fun creating a new dish, you could even have a contest and cook something for each other. Hello Fresh or Gousto have a great selection of meals we’ve enjoyed preparing in the past and they even deliver the food. Winner. Failing that, order in your favourite takeaway. Treat yourself.
Who wants to rush around getting ready to go out when you can have a long, relaxing bath and then get comfy in your slouchies? Make the whole evening a pamper zone, face masks, nail painting, the works. It’s important to spend time on yourself and a quiet night in is the perfect opportunity.
Money in the bank!
You’ll save a lot of money. I dread to think how much money I spent on clothes, shoes, alcohol, entry fees to clubs, burgers at the end of the night and taxis Home back in the day. At the time, it didn’t matter. I was having a good time and it was fine. I didn’t have any commitments. Now, it’s an entirely different story, and I’d rather my pennies where I can see them.
So you see, going out isn’t the be all and end all. Yes, going out is okay once in a while but staying in has its advantages and wanting to stay at home for an evening isn’t anything to be ashamed of. More and more of us are doing it and openly enjoying it.
Now, where’s that remote control….
