Okay I know we have only just got into Spring, officially, but I for one am already counting down until Summer arrives. It may have something to do with the fact that I am off my on my holiday to sunny Tenerife in three weeks time and looking at new summer clothes has got me all Summer ready. Having said that, Summer has always been my favourite season. I put it down to being a June baby – it’s in my blood!
So here are my reasons to look forward to Summer.
Sunshine
Okay, here in the UK, we aren’t always guaranteed the best Summers. Last year was some kind of miracle and we enjoyed week after week of glorious sunshine and scorchio temperatures. Whilst everyone was complaining I was lapping it up, I loved it. But at least if it’s not really hot it at least warms up enough to give our central heating systems a rest and we can enjoy some Vitamin D from the sunshine we do get. There is nothing better than waking up in the morning and seeing a beautiful sunny day to give you a feel-good start to your day. It never fails!
Day Trips
It’s so much easier to go on ad-hoc day trips in the Summer months. Waking up on a Saturday or Sunday and deciding that you are going to jump in the car and go somewhere is one of the greatest things. Whether it’s a day trip to the beach or a day out to a theme park or zoo, you are far more likely to do this in the Summer than the cold Winter. There are so many wonderful places to go in the UK, we are spoiled for choice.
School Holidays
I might be one of the few parents out there that actually looks forward to the school Summer holidays. I love them. I’m not a fan of the school run or making sandwiches, so six weeks off of both of those tasks is complete bliss for me. I’m also very lucky that I work at home for the majority of the week so childcare isn’t a huge problem for me. I am very lucky with this and I am grateful every day.
Longer Days And Light Nights
We all love sitting outside until 10 o’clock at night, right? The longer days and the lighter nights just make you feel like you’re getting more out of your days. Life just feels that little less stressful when you see more daylight hours – it’s a known feel-good factor. Time to get that garden Summer ready, yes?
Barbecues
Okay, I’m not the biggest fan of barbecues but I do love the smell of them. You can guarantee the first day you can go outside without a coat, someone somewhere in the UK will be wheeling the barbecue out and loading up with sausages and burgers. And why not? We get more mediocre weather here than we do warm sunshine, so why shouldn’t we embrace it?
Bronzed Skin
I’m not encouraging sunbathing here by any means, but who doesn’t love the look of bronzed skin? I don’t tan easily anyway so I always whip out the fake tan in the Summer. It makes me look slimmer and I feel so much more confident with a bit of colour. I know it’s a personal preference and it’s not for everyone, but this is my list, right?!
The Feel Good Factor
Finally, don’t you find everyone is just happier in the Summer? It’s easier to smile when the sun has got his hat on and I for one can’t wait. Let’s look forward to smaller central heating bills and happy Summer days! Bring it on!

I’m kind of looking forward to summer but that just means I have to wear sunscreen on my face and arms more because I spend a lot of time outside during the day. I do love taking our kids swimming and we have a season pass to a park here that has a big water park jungle gym that I know they’re going to love.
So many reasons to look forward to the summer. I can’t wait to get the bbq out, relax in the garden, plan day trips and enjoy the lazy evenings in the sun x #TriumphantTales
Oh I am so looking forward to summer. I am so done with the cold and dark days. I’m like you I like the sunshine, not too keen on school runs and just want to be able to just go out anywhere whenever. #TriumphantTales
Our days have just got shorter and darker 🙁 but on the plus, the school hols are only 2 weeks away! I can not wait! I love the holidays. School is such a punish! #Triumphanttales
I love all of those reasons for summer. Thanks for sharing them. #TriumphantTales
the last two summers in the Uk have been brilliant weather wise, I certainly don’t look forward to summer in Dubai and I love coming back to the UK to escape the heat, I don’t even mind rainy summer days, as unlike Dubai you can still go outdoors and enjoy things. #triumphanttales
It’s definitely the longer days and longer nights that I am looking forward to the most. I just wish we could have them the whole year round. The sooner I get that holiday home in the sun the better! #triumphanttales
Love summer for the day trips to the seaside and eating Fish and chips by the river in Chester … what I hate is the early wake ups from my boys
