Working from home is becoming more and more popular. Flexible working for parents is of paramount importance and it’s becoming a much sought-after option for candidates when considering their job options. So how do you create a workspace at home, that works for you? Read on to find out.
The perfect desk
First and foremost, you need a dedicated area of the house to set up your workspace. Whilst it may be very tempting and ridiculously appealing to curl up on the sofa under a blanket with your laptop on your lap, chances are if you do this, you won’t be at your most productive. If you’re lacking in space, this doesn’t have to be a problem either. I found a great selection of desks at Lionshome that are perfect little space savers. This creates the perfect working area without taking over your home.
Calming decoration
It’s your office and you are free to decorate it in any way that you choose. Research suggests that calming colours are the most effective in terms of motivation and inspiration for the working day. Couple this with some framed artwork or quirky quotes and soon you will have an area to sit in each day that is relaxing yet motivational. Plants
Plants can be a great addition to your working space, and don’t worry if you don’t have green fingers – instead, opt for flowers or artificial plants. Just don’t forget to dust them from time to time! If you are tempted to go for the real deal, there are plenty of low maintenance indoor plants, such as aloe vera, spider plants and dracaena.
Easy storage
You need to make sure that your storage is effective but unobtrusive. Floating shelves, hanging storage pockets and wall mounted box cubes will work perfectly if you have smaller storage spaces, while shelving under the desk is great for printers or scanners.
You could really make your office space your own bu having some Bespoke printed folders – your choice in the pattern will have your folders blending in with and complimenting your chosen office decor, giving it the perfect finishing touch.
We live in a modern age and one where it is important to think about the environment. Keep paperwork to a minimum and only print when you really need to. Save documents digitally using a backed-up cloud storage system or a USB is the perfect solution to keeping your workspace organised.

The right temperature
You won’t work effectively if you are too hot and likewise if you are too cold. Make sure that the room that you have chosen for your workspace is one that you are comfortable in, or one that can be heated easily if needed. The same applies for when the Summer months arrive. For example, don’t choose a room that is really well insulated if you are going to struggle during a heatwave. A room with a window is preferable. Not only will you benefit from the natural light, but the breeze from an open window in the Summer months will be extremely welcoming.
So, there we have it. A beginner’s guide for creating the perfect workspace at home. Take these tips one step at a time and before you know it, you will wonder why you didn’t make the move sooner.
