Do you remember this time last year when were all complaining about how hot it was? We were mid heatwave and even walking to the corner shop felt like a little bit too much effort. Whilst it’s not like that this year, it’s not something to be downhearted about, because the temperatures we are currently experiencing are perfect for getting active this Summer.
There’s nothing better than days spent outside when it’s warmer. The sun doesn’t have to be beating down to enjoy the fresh air. You can still get your dose of Vitamin D without basking in the sunlight. With this in mind, I’ve put together a list of ideas that might give you some ideas for how you can get active.
Ride a bike
Riding a bike always has the ability to make you feel like a kid again. Instead of going for a leisurely ride around the neighbourhood, why not go further afield and go on a trail, it’s a great balance between miles of exercise and beautiful views of nature. Take someone with you – either the family or a friend and make a day of it. Just don’t forget your water and suncream.
Book an activity holiday
Do you have a particular sport or hobby that you enjoy but just don’t have time to do often enough? Life can be busy and very often day to day chores get in the way of us enjoying time for ourselves to do the things that we enjoy. The perfect solution to this problem is to go on holiday that revolves around your favourite activity. This could be a golfing, watersports, walking or cycling holiday. Activity holidays are very popular these days and are a great way to not only enjoy your hobby but to keep active and enjoy some quality time with those closest to you. You could even try glamping! Did you know that there is such a thing as floating glamping pods? They are great for active breaks and a lot of fun all at the same time!

Sign up for a workout class or Bootcamp
There are many classes offered at gyms or even local village halls which are perfect if you want to do something a little bit more fun and with a friend. If you find a session in the gym a little boring and the thought a tad unmotivating then why not try a Zumba or Kickboxing class instead? It can be a real giggle and at the same time you’re increasing your fitness levels – it’s a win-win!
Play Tennis
We all do it. We watch Queens and Wimbledon on the television and say we are going to take up the sport – I know I do! I used to play years ago and every year without fail I’m mentally joining a tennis club to take up the sport I used to love so much, but I never get around to doing it! It’s such a great sport and it doesn’t really feel like exercise. There are usually tennis courts nearby that can be used for a small fee and you should find some at your town’s high school, park or country club if you don’t want to commit to joining a club. Then when you’re done you can enjoy some strawberries and cream knowing you’ve earned them!
Go swimming
Swimming is a great sport no matter what the weather, but there is something appealing about going for a dip in the pool when it’s warmer outside. It’s a great form of exercise to do if you want to go it alone or if you want to go with friends, then that’s great too. Swimming is perfect because you can go at your own pace and do as much or as little as you like. It’s a great all-rounder too, using every muscle in your body.
So there we have a few ideas that might make you feel enthusiastic about getting active this Summer. Perhaps you have some other suggestions? I’d love to read them. Let me know in the comments.
