Blogging and me

For the first time in two months, it dawned on me. I haven’t got my posts scheduled for two weeks in advance. It sent me into a bit of a mild panic. For the last few weeks I have been super organised and have felt so much more ‘at ease’ with the blogging lifestyle, upkeep and pretty much the entire process.

I started to think about what has changed for me to find myself in this mini predicament and then I realised – I’ve been doing so much more than just blogging lately.

Not only have I been trying to keep up with my Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother addiction(!), I’ve also been taking on other little tasks.

It started with the journey of going self hosted which I wrote about in a recent post. That took up a bit of time with getting the design and layout of my blog to the point I was super happy with it. I’m a faffer. I’m a perfectionist, so it took a little while. And admittedly a little longer than I hoped and it ate away into my writing time.

I’ve been linking up a lot more lately. This takes time and it is a little faffy if we’re going to be completely honest. I like to comment on other posts as soon as I link up whenever I can, so this also eats into my writing time. But it’s so important and I realise that. And I enjoy it obviously. Not only is it great to communicate and network with all of you lovely people but it’s brilliant for getting inspiration. It’s a win win. But again, it’s time consuming.

On top of all of this I’m studying for my Diploma in Social Media Management. This is crammed into my evenings, has been known to be my latest bedtime reading material and not only will it assist me in my working life it’s contributing towards my blogging journey. Helping me to grow this blog into something really special. I hope, anyway.

I’ve been talking more and more with brands about possible and upcoming collaborations. Arranging said collaborations and all the while still working my day job and looking after my family. It’s been a busy old time.

As if all this wasn’t enough I’ve also taken on building a website for my Brother In Law’s business. When I type that out it still doesn’t make it feel any more real. Me. Building a website. If you had told me a year ago that I’d be doing something that sounded so complicated I’d have had a bit of a giggle about it. But that is what blogging has done for me. It’s opened doors and my mind to things that I never thought I’d do.

Since going self hosted I’ve developed more self confidence. Confidence in myself and my abilities. Confidence in what I could maybe achieve.

It’s true when they say that you get out what you put in, because the more I do, the more I am getting out of blogging. It’s exciting, but it can be tricky getting the organisation right. Finding the time to get everything done in an efficient way is certainly on my list of things to get done, but it’s exactly that, finding the time! That’s going to take some getting used to. But the whole experience is a learning curve and I’m sure that it will come. With time…!

But for now, this is another blog post lined up, so the wave of panic has lifted a little. For now….

I know exactly how you feel hon. I am also quite big on the tinkering and I won’t stop faffing until I get things looking just as I want them to. The thing I find with blogging is that just as you get things “perfect”, you learn about something else that you can do. This week I have designed my own social media share badges and my own business cards. Something I never even dreamed I would be able to do before now. You’re so right in that it definitely opens doors and widens horizons. Love your new self hosted site lovely. Thanks for sharing with #fartglitter x

This was a great post for me read on my return from a blogging break. As I’m feeling fairly nervous about dipping my toes in the water again. I’ve enjoyed having more time in the evenings but am excited about reading other blogs, articles and writing again too. I definitely need to get more organised – meant to do this this summer but I suppose having fun got in the way! Good luck with your brother-in-law’s website. x

Sounds like you are incredibly busy. I have 1 or 2 posts planned out at the most so kudos in keeping ahead. Sometimes other things in life take over. But you’ll get ahead of the game again soon and you’re still keeping on top of things in the mean time. It’s great to hear blogging has opened up new opportunities to you too. I’ve come from the other way and set-up my own site years ago, but continue to learn and get involved with the blogging communities out there.

Wow, scheduling 2 weeks out is impressive. I blog daily, and I’ve exhausted all of my draft posts, so I need to build them up again. But working full time and now back dancing a couple of evenings a week doesn’t help that. I’m also a champion ‘faffer’!!! Sometimes feel like the blog is just another ball to try and juggle but it’s a ball I love and I’m so glad there are two of us sharing the work – or I’d be in a permanent state of ‘nothing to post’ panic!!!! X

I’m a newbie blogger but would love to be able get ahead of myself. Not yet achieved! I’m a perfectionist just like you, so totally understand spending a lot of time faffing to get everything just right. It sounds like you’re managing incredibly well, so don’t beat yourself up. Keep going! x #SharingtheBlogLove

Your blog looks brilliant! I’m quite new to the blogging world and feel a little bit out of depth!! Still have no real idea what to do. Posts like this give me some ideas!! Just not sure how you find the time to do everything!! I need to get more organised…! Improving the look of my blog is definitely on the to do list! #sharingthebloglove

Ah thank you. It can be quite daunting when it’s all new but it all has a way of falling into place. Your blog looks great too, I had a quick look. As for the design I think that comes with time. Thanks for popping by mine ๐Ÿ™‚

Your blog is amazing, no need to worry. Sometimes, blogging is too overwhelming and I see nothing wrong with keeping it at bay for a week or two. I consider blogging as something I enjoy doing, not another stressful job to have done at all costs. #SharingtheBlogLove

Definitely. It’s proving really useful. I don’t think the particular one I’m doing is available now but there are plenty more! And thanks for the blog compliment, I’m very proud of it ๐Ÿ™‚ x

2 weeks in advance? You are a master! I’m still skidding into post day typing at full speed and slamming into that publish button with barely a second to lose. No, seriously, I am lucky if I have my posts lined up the evening before. I am trying to get better at that, but there just never seems to be enough time in the day.

    Thanks for the inspiration ๐Ÿ™‚

My pleasure. I still have my moments. Not doing so great at the organisation at the moment but I blame the Christmas rush. ๐Ÿ™‚
