People mainly buy watches because of the most basic function – to be able to tell the time. And in this modern-day and age, many people are choosing to buy smartwatches because of their incredible functions which reduce the need to have a smartphone in your hand all of the time. With this in mind, it might sound strange to think of someone buying luxury watches with the prospect of it becoming an investment.
However, it has very recently become quite the trend and now the watch enthusiasts out there are jumping on to this trend.
With so many brands available it can be tricky to know which one to invest your hard-earned cash into. It’s worth bearing in mind that sometimes, it’s not down to how expensive the watch is but how good the quality is and how relevant it is and more importantly how relevant it stays. For example. sports watches hold real value as an investment in the second-hand market.
There many luxury watch brands available. From Rolex and Cartier to Chopard watches and Patek Philippe. It can be difficult to know where to start. And of course, the big question is, how much should you spend on a watch that you want to keep its value. Overall, watches that are in the region of £3,000 to £6,000 will retain their original value long term and it’s fair to say that there will be only a few that are outside of this market price that will keep a steady resale value.
Iconic and vintage watches will usually always hold their value and they might even grow in time.
So, are luxury watches worth investing in? They can be, as with any type of investment, risky, and the majority of watches that are currently available are not a particularly good investment, but if you pick the right ones, it can absolutely be worth it.
If you do take the plunge and treat yourself to a classic timepiece, always think about how you will look after it. One thing that many people will overlook is the cost of storing their valuable watches. Not only should you think about the maintenance but where you will store it at home. If you don’t have a safe, perhaps you should invest in one?
It’s worth spending time researching different watch brands and have a look at websites such as Chronoexpert before parting with your cash.
It’s always worth remembering, that if for any reason, the watch you invest in doesn’t increase in value over a period of time, at the very least you will be in possession of a watch you can enjoy for many years to come.
