5 Top Tips For Moving House

5 Top Tips For Moving House

We have moved house a grand total of three times in the last ten years, and whilst we are quite content where we are, and have no plans to move, I thought I would share with you my 5 top tips for moving house.

Pack early

No one needs to be packing last minute. Make sure you are organised and pack as early as you can without it being disruptive. It doesn’t have to be mundane, you can start with one box a day. Slow and steady wins the race. If you have a large house, this will likely take you a couple of months and a smaller house, just one month.

Consider getting a mover

If you can’t bear the thought of packing the boxes yourself and even more so, packing a van or car, seriously consider hiring a mover. We have always been lucky enough to have the help of friends and family when we have moved in the past but if we didn’t, I really would go down the route. It would certainly take some of the stress out of the situation. Some movers even clean for you – imagine that!

5 Top Tips For Moving House

Start with rooms used the least

It’s a no brainer isn’t it really. If you’re moving house in the middle of summer, pack up the Christmas decorations first. Admittedly that’s a bit of an exaggerated example, but you can begin to understand what I mean. By doing your packing this way, you will feel like you are getting  a lot done, without it taking over.

Label the boxes

It sounds like an obvious one, but I can’t stress enough how important it is to label the boxes. Not just with the room they came from with a rough list of what’s in them. You don’t want to be rummaging through all of the boxes looking for your phone charger at 1am in the morning after a long day of moving house. Write it on the box and you won’t have a problem!

Have a box of essentials

Or, you could simply use my last tip and have a box of essentials. The phone charger would certainly be one of them! This can also include a few mugs, tea, coffee, sugar and some food for when you need to stop for a break. Basically anything you think you might need as soon as you arrive in your new home. This way you won’t end up with boxes upon boxes half opened and confusion everywhere.

Do you have any more tips you can add to this list? Let me know in the comments.

Good advice. The key to a smooth moving is planning everything ahead and de-cluttering before the moving day.
