Introducing Prints In Your Property

Printed patterns in the home are undeniably in style, yet for many of us, they still feel like a somewhat outlandish decor choice. While we might be able to appreciate prints in your property or in the quirky homes of others, many of us simply don’t consider ourselves the types of people who can make prints work. We may even assume that, to pull a look like this off, we need to go all out with bright colours, clashing styles, and generally funky decor

In reality, though, printed home designs are surprisingly versatile. These days, there’s simply no truth in the misconception that you need to go hard with prints or avoid them altogether. Any homeowner could make printed patterns, wallpapers, and curtains work for them in far more subtle ways if they put their minds to it.

If prints keep catching your eye, keep on reading to find out how that’s possible.

# 1 – Use Patterns as a Starting Point

Printed patterns draw the eye. It’s this level of immediate attention that puts many homeowners off. Don’t let it do the same for you. Introducing printed elements, such as cushions or made-to-measure curtains that use printed materials, can be a great starting point for your decor in general. Let’s say you find some curtains with a fun nature-based pattern. These could become a focal point to your room, and inform a natural decor style that uses green paints and other earthy neutrals. This ensures that even small splashes of pattern will blend nicely with your wider interiors, adding interest, without looking out of place or attracting undue attention.

# 2 – Choose Your Spaces Wisely

You don’t need to implement a pattern house-wide just because you’ve used it once. Using patterns in only well-selected, preferably small spaces can add a much-needed wow factor without becoming too impactful on your decor overall. This is a trend that’s been especially prevalent in recent years, where spaces like bathrooms and entry halls have been transformed by strongly patterned tiles that really lift these otherwise confined spaces. These smaller areas also provide pretty easy opportunities to offset loud patterns, such as painted panelling along the bottom half of the wall, or plain walls that work alongside those patterned tiles.

# 3 – Don’t Mix if You Don’t Feel Comfortable

This just in – pattern mixing is a pretty trendy interior focus right now, but there’s no need for you to do it if you don’t feel comfortable. This is especially important to note because, if you do delve into mixing, say, striped textiles with floral wallpaper, you’ll inevitably create a farmhouse vibe. That’s great if you’re seeking that look, but don’t feel forced into it just because you want a little pattern around the place. In reality, even one small patterned element has the power to transform your space when it’s positioned well and works in keeping with your decor at large.

Put the power of prints in your property with these subtle tips for getting started.
