5 Ways to Improve Your Home's Ventilation

Summer is finally here and whilst it’s lovely to enjoy the warmer weather outside, it doesn’t always make spending time inside a pleasant experience. Houses can get warm and stuffy during the Summer months, so today we are going to give you ideas to improve your home’s ventilation.

Consider indoor plants

Plants can be a fantastic way to improve the air quality in your house. Plants actually act as their own self-contained ventilation system wherever you decide to place them. This is because they take carbon dioxide and any toxins that might be in the air and then produce clean and fresh oxygenated air to replace it.

Install french or bi-folding doors

If you have space, a great way to improve your home’s ventilation is to install some french or bi-folding doors. Not only do French doors welcome in more natural light, but they can also be opened fully and they look fantastic too! They are a great way to bring the outdoors inside bringing you closer to the natural beauty of the garden.

Pick indoor furnishings carefully

Not everyone knows this, but, natural plant-based furnishings such as wicker and bamboo can contribute to better air quality in your home This is because plant-based materials retain very little heat and yet conduct air very well. By choosing plant-based furnishings you will have better ventilation through air movement, thus resulting in keeping your rooms at a much more pleasant temperature during the warmer months.

Always use your extractor fans!

Most modern houses have them these days but do we always use our extractor fans? Probably not! When cooking, be sure to switch your fan on to reduce the amount of steam produced and the same goes for the bathroom when taking a bath or shower. Not only will this keep the rooms ventilated but it will also reduce the chance of mould and mildew developing.

Think cross-ventilation

It’s not always practical to keep windows and doors open all the time, but certainly whilst you are at home, it’s worth making the most of your windows by keeping them open when you can. Houses will definitely benefit from fresh air circulating in and through the rooms in your home as and when the weather permits.

You can always use fans in rooms too – especially useful during a warm Summer night.

Whilst the UK doesn’t experience year-round heat, this can sometimes make it more difficult to manage when we do. By taking some of these ideas, you should be able to improve your home’s ventilation and enjoy the warmer weather while it lasts.
