This time of year can be tricky for a lot of people. The pressure of Christmas can be huge and so many people feel the stress of providing the perfect Christmas complete with presents, food and drink. If you don’t have the disposable income, this is where the struggle starts. If this is all starting to sound a little familiar to you, I’m going to give you a few ideas that may help give you an income boost, this side of the festive season.
Change your bank account
More often than not the banking market has a great deal of fierce competition. Take a good look around at the current offers because many banks will even ‘bribe’ you to switch. Incentives obviously vary but it can be possible to get up to £150 — that would be the Christmas food shop sorted!
Sell unwanted items
We’ve all got things at home that we no longer want or need. What’s the saying? ‘Someone’s trash is another’s treasure’. Even things like old console or smartphone boxes sell on online sites — crazy right?
Take time to go through all of those cupboards, drawers, spare rooms and even attics. Get together all of the things that you don’t need and sell them on. You can use eBay, Facebook Marketplace or even set up a stall at the local car boot. You might be surprised by how much you earn.
Check if you are owed money
The PPI saga went on for that long, many of us got sick of hearing about it, but how many were grateful that it came to light in the first place? It’s well worth taking the time to look into whether you could be owed money in ways you hadn’t even previously considered.
For example, you could currently have a mis-sold pension. It’s a little known fact that half of UK pensions are said to have been mis-sold and yours could be one of them. This sad fact means that hundreds of thousands of people have invested in useless pensions because they were given bad financial advice.
If reading this has got you thinking, take a look at Money and Me Claims, who may be able to help you claim back what you’re owed, whilst you still can.
Rent out a parking space
This is a really easy way of making money if you are lucky enough to live near a city centre, train station, football ground or even an airport. You could earn money each week by renting out your drive to people who don’t want to be robbed by public car parking fees. Easy money, right?
Try your hand at mystery shopping
The high-street retailers we all know and love regularly contract mystery shopping agencies to check that their customer service is up to scratch. This basically means that you are employed to visit a pub or a shop to rate their service or their goods. This can actually be a lot of fun.
The type of payment for this can vary, depending on the agency. Some will give you free items and others may give vouchers — both of which could help towards gifts. Others will pay you cash too and this can be up to £30 a day. Not bad for a bit of mooching around the shops!
Ask for a pay rise
Many of us are scared to ask, but what is the worst that can happen when you ask for a pay rise? Your boss says ‘no’. If you don’t ask, you don’t get and you might be glad you did!
Make sure you prepare your points and see what happens. More often than not, it’s just as tricky for an employer to say no as it is for you to ask in the first instance, Go for it!
Hopefully, these few ideas may have inspired you to get that income boost you need this side of Christmas, and soon you will be well on your way to a stress-free festive period. If you have any other ideas, feel free to leave them in the comments so that we can all make use of them.
