5 Ways to be good to yourself

In recent years we’ve come to realise more than ever how important it is to take care of ourselves and each other. But how often do you really think about yourself? We spend so much time stressing about doing our jobs well, paying the bills or worrying about the next plumbing job that needs doing (tip: worry no more and just check out St John Plumbing!), as well as helping our loved ones that very often we fail to take care of ourselves. Did you know that if you set aside time each week (or even better each day!) to be good to yourself, not only will you feel happier but also you’ll also improve your life in every area. When you feel good, you naturally share positive energy with all of those around you, whether this is at home or at work, and that can only be a good thing, right? Let’s take a look at five ways to be good to yourself.

Do nothing and watch that boxset

The misconception about self-care is that it should all be around clean living and exercise and whilst this is true to an extent, it’s not the be-all and end-all. Self-care can take on any form including taking time out to do things that make YOU happy and if that’s settling down for an entire weekend to binge-watch a new series on Netflix then do it! Whatever brings you joy and happiness is your version of self-care, so that’s where you should start, by asking yourself what will make you happy, right here, right now, and doing just that. You deserve it.

Treat yourself

Have you been putting off getting yourself that new pair of sunglasses from Still Friday? Have you been desperate for those new pair of Nikes? If a small treat to yourself is what will make you smile then it’s worth every single penny. You likely work very hard and not all of your money should be spent on bills and groceries. As long as it’s within reason and isn’t going to result in you ending up on debt then that spend is justified. Buy the treat and enjoy it.

Have a pamper session

If you’re usually too busy to take time to spend on yourself, set aside an evening or afternoon and focus on yourself. Even the following ideas with no rush or stress will feel like a treat:

Wash your hair
Enjoy some of your favourite music
Take a warm bubble bath
Groom yourself
Wear comfy clothes
Light candles
Read a book
Give yourself a manicure and/or pedicure

Eat well

We’re all entitled to a naughty treat and that’s okay. But the benefits you will feel from eating well are second to none. Your blood sugars will be stable and that means that you’ll have a better focus and more energy, as well as you’ll feel more emotionally stable. Even preparing your food can be relaxing.
