Things To Do In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Jeddah is the biggest city in Makkah Province and is also the main gateway to two of Islam’s holiest cities, Medina and Mecca. Situated on the coast of the Red Sea, as of 2017 it has a population of around four million inhabitants. Jeddah is known as Saudi Arabia’s commercial capital but is the second-largest city after Riyadh.

Where to stay in Jeddah

There are plenty of Jeddah hotels available to book but it’s very important to think about what budget you have available. There are different types of accommodation available for different budgets. If some luxury is what you desire then you can book a five-star hotel overlooking the stunning beaches, but there are also three-star hotels available for those that are not that concerned about this kind of luxury. There is accommodation available for all types of budget, so have a good think about how you want to spend your money before you book.

Jeddah Festivals

There are many festivals that take place in Jeddah over the course of the year. If you are a food lover then the most ideal time for you to visit is at the end of March so that you can go to the food festival. Local cafes and big food chains love to get involved and there is an amazing atmosphere to be soaked up.

If you are in Jeddah during January and February and have children then you must attend the Hayya Festival. This festival has children as it’s main focus and they are sure to enjoy it, as we are sure you will too.

The Summer Festival is another one that is well worth attending. Known as The Jeddah Ghair, you will see many tremendous sights, including stalls of local cuisine and celebratory fireworks. You will find it on the Jeddah Corniche Waterfront.

Street Food

We have already mentioned the food festival but the food is something that can be enjoyed all year round in Jeddah.

With so many to choose from it could be difficult to know where to start. Previous visitors would recommend that you try manaeesh, classic falafel, mutabaq and yughmish to name but a few. They are not expensive and you will find them everywhere. Go ahead and treat yourself.

Shopping

If you like to shop when on vacation then you will certainly not be disappointed. Jeddah has over 15 shopping malls that are spread across the whole city.

Out of the 15, the Red Sea Mall is known to be the more popular choice. There is something for everyone from a play area for the children to plenty of shops and supermarkets. Tourists will not be bored, especially given its historical background.

However, if you are taking the family on the trip, you may prefer to visit either the Serafi Mega Mall or The Arabia Mal. These are perfect for families.

If you fancy travelling further afield, you can check out Jeddah to Dubai flights, you’ll fly directly into Dubai International Airport and the cheapest flights available is usually on a Sunday.
