I recently wrote a post for you about holidaying in Cornwall. Whilst Cornwall is a beautiful part of the UK, it can be quite a trek to get there. However, Cornwall’s friendly neighbour Devon is just as beautiful and not quite as far to go. So, today I’m going to be giving you some ideas for a little bit of luxury in Devon.
Where to stay
We’re not slumming it on this holiday. We don’t have ‘luxury’ in the title for no good reason. Therefore we are going to give you a suggestion we think you will love. How does a fantastic little location between Salcombe and Plymouth sound? More specifically a luxury property in a beautiful village called Modbury, with a swimming pool and a games room for your entertainment? Not only that, it sleeps up to eight people! Look no further than Moorvista. Moorvista is a newbuild property that has been architect designed. In addition to the entertainment factors we’ve already mentioned, it has garage parking for two cars and a wood burner in the lounge for those perfectly cosy Autumn evenings.
Arriving and unpacking at Moorvista would be the perfect way to start your holiday. Modbury is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and you will see straight away why it has earned this title. In addition to its beauty, it is a village that is bursting with independent shops. Their delightful pubs and cafes are pretty incredible too – all of which use wonderful local produce.
What to do in Devon no matter what the weather
Devon has a marginally warmer climate than other parts of the UK, but that’s not to say that showers and gales don’t make an appearance every now and again, (It’s the secret to all that green lushness!).
Thankfully, there is still plenty to do, no matter what the weather. Here is a small list of ideas to get you started.
Take a walk on the beach
If you are visiting Devon in the summer, fantastic. Grab your swimming costume, a towel and enjoy the sunshine. If not, no worries. Beaches can be enjoyed just as much during the autumn and winter months, you just need to wrap up a little more!
There are some fabulous beaches just outside of Modbury that are only a short drive away. Be sure to check out Bigbury-On-Sea, Thurlestone, Bantham and Wonwell. You won’t be disappointed.

National Marine Aquarium
If you want to connect with the ocean then you need to visit the National Marine Aquarium that is run by the Ocean Conservation Charity. During your visit, you will be taken around the world’s Ocean from Plymouth Sound all the way to the Great Barrier Reef. It’s sure to make for a memorable day out.
Exeter Cathedral
Exeter is proud to be the home of one of the oldest Cathedrals in England. Not only is it one of the oldest, but it’s one of the most beautiful, so it’s a must to visit this tourist hot spot when you’re in the area.
The building has the longest stretch of unbroken Gothic vaulting in the world – you need to get a photograph of that. Alongside some stunning stained glass windows and an intricately carved image screen on the West Front.
Don’t forget to stop by for a traditional Devon Cream tea in the cafe and take a browse around the gift shop.
