I know next year’s holiday is probably a million miles from your mind at the moment, and no one would blame you with it only being a matter of weeks until Christmas arrives. But with the seasonal break upon us, it is the perfect time to set some time aside to look into next years holiday, because we all know we need something to look forward to as we head into the New Year. With that in mind, I’m going to discuss with you today the advantages of booking a cottage holiday.
I’ve mentioned before on my blog about how the UK is a wonderful place to holiday. We have fabulous beaches and outstanding scenery. The only thing that we can’t rely on is the weather. But that isn’t the be all and end all. When you have somewhere wonderful to call a home away from home, the UK can offer so much in terms of a holiday.
Your own space
Is there anything nicer than coming home after a busy day sightseeing and having your own space to relax in? You never have to worry about being disturbed by hotel staff so you can enjoy your holiday in total privacy. If you want to leave things lying around, you can. Because you’re not restricted to a single hotel room, you have plenty of space to spread out and enjoy family time together. There’s no getting on top of one another, which can sometimes lead to arguments on holiday. It really is a home from home.
Lots of choices
There are so many different types of holiday cottages available with lots of different facilities. Whether you want your own pool or jacuzzi. A barbecue for those great Summer evenings, and everyday comforts like satellite TV and internet access. One size never fits all, but with the right research, you will find the perfect holiday cottage for your needs.
A holiday for everyone
Do you have a big family that you would love to get away with? Perhaps you have a large group of friends who have children too? Private holiday rentals offer plenty of space for many people to get together. And the even better news is, the larger the group, the lower the cost per head, so private holiday rentals offer great value for group holidays. It’s a no-brainer.
A holiday with your own schedule
A holiday that’s dictated to by breakfast times is always a bit of a chore in my opinion. You’re on holiday, why shouldn’t you have a lie in when you want one? And unlike a package deal, there is no restrictive check-in times or tour schedules – you can tailor your itinerary to suit you and your family, including where you want to go and on what day. And knowing you are coming home to complete comfort makes it all the more luxurious.
Save money
By renting a holiday cottage you can save up to 50% compared to the average family hotel stay – yes really! With that saving, you are then free to spend the money on enjoying yourself! Have more days out as a family. Enjoy more meals out. The world is your oyster! Be sure to check online for cottage voucher codes next time you book.
Take the dog!
Many holiday cottages are pet-friendly! The family dog is just that – a part of the family. Why put it in kennels or have it stay with friends or family when they can come along for the fun! You’ll not only be able to enjoy a great holiday for the whole family (including Rover!), but you will save money on expensive kennel fees, safe in the knowledge that your pet is happy too.
So there we have six reasons why booking a cottage holiday in 2019 could be the way forward for you and your family. I haven’t even touched on the wonderful places you can find them, but take a look at some of my UK travel posts if you need some inspiration!
Do you love to holiday in the UK? Perhaps you already choose holiday cottages as your preferred choice of accommodation. Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear what you think.

I really like cottage holidays and try to do it with a group of old friends once a year (went on a break a couple of years after the little one arrived unsurprisingly!) Agree with all the benefits you outline, really nice to have your own space and all the common communal space just for your clan. #triumphanttales
This is excellent so many great places to visit in the U.K. thanks for hosting #triumphanttales
We love to holiday in the U.K.! We are extremely lucky that my parents have a holiday home on Anglesey so that is our go-to destination but if we ever visit anywhere else in the U.K. I think a holiday cottage is definitely the way to do it! In fact, I’ve been having a look at last minute holiday cottages in Buxton for over the Christmas holidays! #TriumphantTales
My daughter loves having cottage holidays and she’s great at finding gorgeous properties. We love it when we go as a big family group – they are the most relaxed type of holidays! I agree the UK has so much to offer! xx #TriumphantTales
Great way to holiday … and with two dogs would really suit us! #TriumphantTales
we holiday every year in the UK, but we have a base in South Wales to explore from. Our biggest problem with booking getaways in advance is hubbies job is always last minute and we can’t book more than a few weeks in advance #triumphanttales
I like booking cottages for our holidays. Camping (our usual alternative) is fun, but we all get a bit more space in a cottage! We already have one booked for next year 😉 #TriumphantTales
Jaki, I’ve never done a cottage holiday, but it would be great fun. Especially in the UK. Something to think about. Thank you for hosting #triumphanttales.
I love the UK and would love to come back! #TriuphantTales
I have thought about doing this type of holiday before. There are so many places in the UK that are beautiful to visit and a cottage like this would be perfect for a little family stay.

Great post! We did exactly this in the October half term and booked a lovely cottage with hot tub! The children loved it! Thanks for sharing! #TriumphantTales
We were so tempted to do this during the summer gone by but it didn’t happen. We love the idea of taking the car with us on holiday so we can stay in a cottage and drive around each day to see the local sights and towns. You never know it could happen next Spring or Summer! #triumphanttales
We all did this in Tuscany one year — it was amazing. WHat a great way to travel together. And good for you, planning next year! Why not? Something exciting to look forward to! xoxo #triumphanttales xoxo
