It’s that horrible time of year, isn’t it? Last year’s long hot Summer feels like a lifetime ago and if you’re anything like me you take a daily trip to the thermostat to turn the heating up because it feels so cold. You don’t own enough jumpers and you haven’t seen your neck for weeks because you’re always wearing a scarf. You need some warmth in your life. In fact, scrap that, you need some sunshine in your life and you need it soon. This is just one of the reasons why you should holiday in Tenerife this year.
It is ten years ago this very month since I first stepped off the plane and onto Tenerife tarmac and it is somewhere we have returned to many times since. I got engaged to my now husband in Tenerife and we returned there for our honeymoon two years later, so of course, the island holds some very special memories for us. But why should you go?
Year-round Sunshine
Thanks to its location off the west coast of Africa, Tenerife has year-round sunshine. It is very hot and dry in the summer months, so if you do prefer the temperatures a little cooler, you might prefer visiting in the spring or autumn. If you fancy getting away from the dreary UK weather during the winter then you can expect to experience temperatures of around 18°C to 24°C – it sounds like bliss to me!

Perfect Accommodation
There are many different types of accommodation available for you to choose from in Tenerife. Clickstay has many wonderful villas to choose from which leave you free to come and go as you please at any time night and day. A self-catering holiday gives you the freedom to do exactly what you want with your holiday. Villas are perfect if there is a large group of you because not only will you have your own space, but you can split the cost too, making your holiday even cheaper. Many of the villas have private swimming pools too so there is no need to share your pool time with strangers!
Teide National Park
You can’t visit Tenerife and not visit Mount Teide, Spain’s highest mountain. It is the place to go for panoramic views of the island. I can remember the first time I went. It was a cloudy day and we decided to go in search of the sunshine. We drove up through the clouds and found it up by Teide. Teide is a 10-mile-wide dormant volcanic crater which dominates the centre of the island. If you are feeling really brave you can take a cable car that takes visitors 1,200m (3,937ft) above the crater floor. You couldn’t not look down! Visiting Mount Teide at night is also something that must be done – I’m yet to do it myself (I plan on doing so this year!) but with no light pollution whatsoever, the stars are a sight to behold.

The Beaches
Of course, you have to mention the beaches in a holiday article! There are many to choose from but my personal favourite is Playa del Duque situated in Costa Adeje, thankfully we always stay very close to here. It is tucked away into the shelter of a small bay and has the most beautiful of pale sands. With it’s thatched sunshades and blue and white striped changing booths, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the Carribean when visiting this beach. With shops and bars on hand, it’s the perfect way to spend a sunshine filled day before heading back to one of the Clickstay apartments in Costa Adeje to relax for the evening. Get me there now!

Days Out
Tenerife has plenty of places to choose from to spend a day out with the family. Siam Park is a Thai-themed aquatic playground of water slides and rides that will fill you with adrenaline. It can be as exciting or as chilled as you want it to be. If you prefer to relax, you can take a slow ride down the Mai Thai river in a rubber dinghy, or if you are feeling a little more adventurous, dare you try the Tower of Power slide, which plummets you down a near-vertical 90ft drop? It’s your choice!
These are only 5 reasons why you should holiday in Tenerife this year, or any year for that matter. There are so many more things for you to discover whilst you are there. It really is the island of year-long sunshine and the perfect place to go for a winter (or summer) pick me up!
