There are so few words that have such a significant meaning. When it is said, and truly meant, it can change things. It might change how someone sees you or how you see someone else. Telling someone that you love them and showing them are different things. Not everyone is gifted with words, not everyone has the confidence to say it. But showing it? That can be something beautiful. There are many ways to show that you love someone. And here are just a few ways to display your affection and appreciation for the people around you.

Actions speak louder than words, we all know that. And, while nothing says ‘I love you’ better than a diamond ring, there are a few ways that you can try.

Learn To Listen

Sometimes people need to talk, without another person trying to ‘solve’ their problems. A lot of issues in friendships and relationships are due to communication. When a breakdown of communication happens, the feeling of being alone or not having support, or a true friend/partner can hit really hard. There is a skill that pretty much everyone could do with working on, and that is active listening.

Active listening means that you don’t interrupt, you are tuned in to what your partner or friend is saying. You won’t halfhearted be listening while scrolling on your phone. Body language should be open and encouraging too. You can pay attention to their body language too.

Cooking

We all have meals that we really enjoy. In fact, it might be the only reason we travel to a specific country or location – simply for some delicious food. If your friend, family member or partner have something that they enjoy that much, then why not learn to cook it? If there isn’t anything specific, then a surprise breakfast is always a great option. If you don’t live with your significant other, or the friend in question – then swing by a bakery, grab some pastries and coffee and take them over.

Surprise!

Okay so not everyone likes surprises, in fact, some people hate them. But sometimes it is the most fun thing in the world to buy tickets to an event or book a seat at a talk. Or even snag some opening night seats to a new restaurant. Being spontaneous is a lot of fun. It is a great way to show someone that a) you know them and b) you are thinking about them – and what they might like.

Food (Again)

Breakfast and hot meals aside we all have our favourite snacks. There is nothing as enjoyable as going to your friend’s house and watching movies and enjoying some snacks while you do it. They don’t have to be expensive, sometimes a strawberry lace and some popcorn will do.

Or if you have a day trip planned somewhere, you can pack the snacks and show up with all of the good stuff.

Supporter

Everyone is trying to accomplish something in their life, and you can be the person who says the words that gets them through the hard times. Starting a business, a passion project, going through hard family times, the loss of a job whatever it is. Be the supporter. If you can help, and you probably can, then offer to help. If you know someone that can help, and could hook them up then offer to do that.

Letter Writing

The lost art of letter writing. There is something so wonderful getting a letter from someone, rather than a bill through the door. Writing a good letter might take a matter of days, or perhaps you know what you want to say and can write with ease. Get some nice writing paper and a beautiful envelope. It doesn’t matter if you live with the person in question or not – post the letter ones you feel like you have said what you wanted to say. Letters are often kept safely for years, such are the importance of them.

Photos

If you simply don’t have enough photos together then make time to take as many as you can and then put them into a photo frame, or photo album. If you want to be extra creative then get the ones you do have printed in polaroid style and create one of the squares hanging photo displays.

The smallest things like a text to ask how they are in the morning, making something for them, or asking the big life-changing questions are all things that you should think about doing. Saying I love you is a big deal, but showing it is even better.
