How To Start A Family If You Can’t Have Children Biologically

A lot of couples are unable to have children “naturally”. It’s becoming more common, and there are a few reasons for this. Some people believe that we live more static and sedentary lives these days, which makes it easier for fertility issues to arise. Others point to the fact that many couples don’t want kids while they’re young anymore, and by the time they wish to start a family, it’s often biologically too late to conceive.

It’s a sensitive topic, yet couples around the country often feel like their opportunities are over. Coming to terms with something as life-changing as this is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do – but you should know that there are ways to start a family even if you can’t physically have children yourself.

If you’re someone who’s always dreamed of having kids and raising a family, then perhaps it’s worth looking into these viable options:

Adoption & Fostering

People always assume that adoption and fostering are the same, but they’re two different things. If you want to raise a child in your home, then fostering can be a great first step. Find a local fostering agency and go through all the legal paperwork and background checks to be approved as a foster family. You can then give a child – or children – a place to call home.

You’ll raise them as part of your family, though they may only stay with you for a handful of years. Some families love this concept and are more than happy to foster multiple children over many years or decades.

Adoption is when you legally become the foster child’s parents. They stay with you permanently and are legally under your protection. Some families test the waters with fostering to see if it’s right for them before deciding to adopt. This could be a fantastic idea for you, particularly if the other two options don’t work.

Surrogacy

If you’re unable to carry a child due to fertility issues, then surrogacy may be a brilliant option. It involves someone else (a surrogate) carrying the child for you. In some cases, you’re able to use your genetic material for them to carry the child, or they’ll use their own.

It’s very complex and can be extremely expensive, but if you want to raise a child from birth, then this is one of the only options available.

IVF

The other option is to undergo IVF, which is a specialised fertility treatment involving the fertilisation of eggs in a lab. The embryo then gets transferred to your uterus so you can carry the child.

Couples with fertility concerns prefer this option because it feels the most natural, and they believe it helps them build a stronger family bond. However, it’s never guaranteed to work – and it can cost a fortune.

The underlying thing to take from this blog is that there is still hope. You can raise a family, and it’s worth looking into the alternatives when a more natural and biological conception isn’t possible.
