It’s getting to that time of year again when the nights are warmer and it can be more difficult to sleep. We struggle in our house – we live in a new build and the insulation is insane! Upstairs is naturally the warmest part of the house and night times can sometimes be unbearable – especially if it is in the middle of a UK heatwave like we had last year. Our body temperature needs to drop slightly before we go to sleep which is why it’s difficult to drop off when we’re too hot. So how can we sleep in warmer weather? Read on for some tips.
Change your duvet!
I don’t know about you but I find it impossible to sleep with no cover over me at all. I have to feel ‘snuggled’ – whether it’s warm or not. Last year I made the biggest faux par ever by not investing in a summer duvet. It’s not like we are abroad where we get months and months of high temperatures so some of us are reluctant to spend a lot of money on something that might only get a few weeks use a year. You don’t have to spend a fortune. Pick yourself up a cheap duvet from LatestDeals.co.uk and it will most certainly do the trick. While your there you can check out the amazingly priced duvet covers they have on offer.
Naked is not the answer
When you are hot, the natural thing is to remove as many items of clothing as possible. However, when it comes to sleeping, advice suggests that it’s not greatly helpful, in actual fact light cotton nightwear is better. If this still feels too much, then comfortable underwear is your next best bet.
Keep the bedroom cool
It seems like sacrilege to shut out the beautiful sunlight but if the sun is shining through your window throughout the day it’s going to heat up your room, so keeping it in darkness will also help keep it cool. Keep blinds closed and windows open throughout the day to help keep it as cool as possible ready for bedtime.
Make friends with your fridge
The fridge and freezer aren’t just for food you know! We all know that there is nothing better than the cool side of the pillow, so why not beat the system and have two cool sides to your pillow? Throw some pillowcases in the fridge or freezer so when you go to bed your neck and head will be greeted with a brisk chill.
Don’t forget technology
Unplug all of your televisions and games consoles – they generate heat when they’re not even being used. And of course – don’t forget your best friend – the fan. Fans don’t just circulate warm air. Pointing a fan out the window will actually push out hot air. Alternatively, you can place a tray of cold water and ice in front of the fan to cool the air further. How about that for a top tip?
