Family Photography: Tips For Capturing Photos To Last A Lifetime

Family photography is something that, as parents, we all know we need to do more of. There is always something more important to do, though – washing, feeding, cleaning… the list goes on. Stopping to take photos seems almost impossible!

Actually though, with children being so adamant to grow up these days, photography should be at the top of everyone’s to-do list. Otherwise, we risk forgetting all the silly phases and habits that make our children who they are.

One way to make sure that you have enough photographic evidence to remind yourself and your children of important milestones and memories is to head for some family photography in a studio. This way, no one can escape or refuse to smile – the unusual and professional setting will have your children on their best behaviour and, no doubt, giggling away in no time.

Here are some tips for capturing family photos that are unique, special and will last a lifetime.

Act natural!

This tip might be more for the parents than the kids, but make sure to be yourself! Being in a studio setting isn’t a regular occurrence, so it might take some time to feel comfortable enough to let your character show in photos. Make sure that you relax at some point though, as natural smiles and poses make for far more special photos.

Your photographer will be trained in how to make people feel at ease too, so you don’t have to worry. If you are looking for a company that encourages relaxed photography, Nousha is a London family photographer who specialises in taking black and white photos that showcase the fun character of each and every family. All their images capture natural moments, rather than instructing families to act and pose a certain way.

Have fun!

This next one might go without saying, but for a photographer to get some good photos, you need to be enjoying yourselves. Rather than telling your kids to be on their best behaviour, for some epic family photography, everyone needs to let loose! It might go against parental instincts to let your children be as hyper and crazy as they wish (to some extent), but the photos that you come away with will be 1000% more memorable!

If you find the right photographer for you, they will have tactics and ideas to try and make all the family giggle – your job is simply to listen.

Get everyone involved!

The final tip for making sure that your family photography is a success is to get everyone involved, or at least as much of your family as you can. Kids, parents, grandparents, pets – it is important to capture everyone’s milestones, even the oldies! Of course, it is easier said than done to get a large family in one place, but the images captured will make it completely worth it.

It is usually fine to take a larger number of people along for a photoshoot, depending on the size of the studio. Your photographer will know to swap people in and out to make sure that everyone’s having fun and some truly special memories are caught. By having all the family involved, everyone can put the photos up around their house and they will no doubt be passed down generations.

As you can see, family photography doesn’t have to be something you are constantly worrying about not doing enough of. You can book in for professional studio photography to make sure that important milestones and stages of growth are captured and remembered for years to come! As mums or dads, we all know how tricky it is to get pictures of our family that we are in too, family photography allows you to forget all about this responsibility.
