The key things people forget when redecorating the home

Every now and then, it’s good to redecorate the home. Whether your home needs a lick of paint to freshen it up or you want to completely change your style, redecorating is a great way to release your creativity and make your home just right.

But sometimes, redecorating can feel like a massive job. You might even get carried away with all of your ideas that you forget certain things. Here are the key things people forget when redecorating – and the ones you need to remember!

Planning it out

Despite it being one of the most important aspects of redecorating, planning is most commonly forgotten. Without a plan, your redecoration can easily spiral out of control, with too many ideas or an overspend, which can lead to frustration.

You should begin your plan by setting out what you want to do, then establish a budget and work out your material costs and whether or not you will need professional help. You also want to work out how much time redecorating will take. Be realistic about this, if you work during the week, then redecorating on a weekend might be the better option than straight after work.

The outside

When was the last time you paid attention to your home’s exterior? In fact, have you ever paid attention to your home’s exterior? It’s easy to forget the outside of the home when redecorating but it deserves some TLC of its own.

If your budget allows it, why not repaint your exterior walls? Not got the money to spend? Try focusing on keeping your exterior walls tidy and pay attention to other aspects such as doors, fences or plants outside of your home.

Under the stairs

A lot of the time, the alcove under the stairs can be forgotten as people don’t realise the potential it has! If you’re redecorating, then this is your opportunity to turn the space underneath your stairs into something special.

There are plenty of solutions too. From plain old storage space filled with shelves to a functional office area complete with a desk, you can make the most of this space. Why not create a lounge area to read or a play area for children? The opportunities are endless!

Décor touches

Of course, painting your walls a new colour or fitting new floors are bound to be a noticed by guests when they visit your newly decorated home. However, you don’t want to forget to add the finishing touches.

Often, after the hard work of the “bigger” jobs, people can forget to complete their home with décor. Pay attention to curtains, rugs, lampshades, look for accessories that ground a room and think about adding plants or flowers. Remember, it’s all in the details.

Lighting

Lighting is such an important aspect of interior design and yet it’s so easily forgotten by people when redecorating their homes. The right lighting can make the biggest difference to any room, setting the right tone and ambience.

Try layering your lighting – you want task lighting for functionality but the ambience and accent lighting too. Check out Pagazzi lighting to get some inspiration for your redecoration and find the perfect light fixtures to give your room a whole new atmosphere.
