Small Garden? Don’t Let That Stop You!

A small garden can be a bit of a headache, especially if you’re someone who loves gardening and spending time in the garden. You’ve got little to no space to really move around, or to plant the plants you actually would love to see.

You’ve got maybe a handful of square feet to work with, very little in the way of a functional layout, and you’re just not sure if you can sit out there with leaves and branches in your face 24/7!

However, if you love gardens, having a small garden shouldn’t stop you! There are quite a few ways you can make the space work for you. It’s just about downsizing the plans you have for it, as well as using all of the space in the best way possible.

Plant Upwards as Much as Possible

You don’t have more horizontal (re:ground) space to make use of, so you’re going to need to plant upwards in your small garden instead.

You can use vertical planters for this, or create your own using little step ladders and trellis panels, or simply place hanging baskets around at different cable lengths.

That’ll give your small garden some good flexibility as well, as you’ll be surrounded by plant life, but nothing will be actually in the ground. If you want to remove a plant and put something new in, it’ll be very easy to get it done!

Go for Statement, Rather Than Subtlety

Statement pieces in a small garden sound like a waste of space, but that couldn’t be more wrong.

If you have bigger pots to plant in, bigger ladders to place your pots on, and even bigger chairs and table than you think is right, you’re going to have more usable space within the area.

This’ll make planting, decorating, and even eating outside in good weather, a lot more feasible.

You Can Still Fit a Pool or a Hot Tub

It’s true! Even in a small garden, you can head on down to a pool shop and find the right water heater, pump, and accessories for a small pool. You might just have to squeeze down the amount of space that your lawn covers, or opt for a smaller patio to sit on.

But either way, you can fit a pool into the space – you just won’t be lapping lanes any time soon! It’ll be more of a paddling pool feature, or somewhere you can just lay on a float and enjoy a drink.

And the same principle applies if you’d like to have a hot tub instead. They make mini versions that can be fitted both above and into the ground, and they can be very intimate spaces for you and your partner (or just you and a friend!) to soak up the bubbles in the summer time.

If you’re cursed with a small garden, you can turn the space into much more of a blessing! Use the tips above to get started.
