A New Living Room

The husband and I have lived together now for almost nine years. For all of those nine years, we have got by with furniture and/or sofas kindly passed on from parents. We have never had our own. Starting out on your own and getting new things takes time. We could have treated ourselves to a new sofa a few years ago, but with a small child we just didn’t see the point in investing our money into something that could potentially get ruined with sticky fingers, so we held off.

This year with the Little Man turning five, we decided it was time to treat ourselves and so we ordered a couple of new sofas and were chuffed to bits to get them in time for Christmas.

As soon as we got the sofas I was determined to get the living room I had always dreamed about. For a long time now I have been pining over Pinterest pictures of cosy grey and silver living rooms. We decorated the living room last year with lovely silver wallpaper on one wall and grey on the others and that’s as far as it had got. Now was my chance to add the finishing touches.

I knew I wanted lots of cushions and throws to make it cosy. There’s nothing like snuggling under a soft blanket of an evening during the Autumn and Winter months. I had a vision in my head and I was determined to get it just how I always wanted it.

I opted for contrasting cushions. Both the large faux fur and smaller silver cushions you can see in the pictures are from Next and the white ones are just cushion covers from B & M. I used my existing cushions, as I liked these so much.

The rose cushion is from Contrado and I designed it myself. It’s a silk cushion and is 16″ square with feather padding and a rope braid trim. I uploaded the design myself, chose the padding and the colour of the rope trim. It was with me within a week. It’s such a great way to add a personal touch to a room and I think the pop of colour among the silver and white works brilliantly. I’m so pleased with it.

I decided to get some curtains to finish the look. I stuck with Next and these curtains are just gorgeous. They are grey velvet with silver lines through them. They make the room feel so warm and I am really pleased with them.

When everything was in place, I decided that I really wanted a rug and a coffee table. I wasn’t going to settle until I had it just how I liked it. The husband wasn’t too sure about my idea at first as he thought it would make the living room look smaller but it really doesn’t. It gives it the cosy look I have been craving all these years.

Add the Christmas tree with the twinkly lights and I am so pleased with our living room. I finally have a living room I love sitting in. Mission accomplished.

Have you reinvented a room in your house lately? Let me know how you got on in the comments.

I received the silk cushion in the post from Contrado in return for a feature in this post. All words, thoughts and opinions are my own.

With Christmas I understand the desire for a cosy area. I have rearranged the furniture and we have a handmade fireplace thanks to my grandfather in law #TriumphantTales

we’ve just moved house for the 5th time in 7 years and dragged the same furniture from the UK to South Africa and now to the UAE, we’ve changed curtains and cushions to suit the rooms and added ornaments and pictures over the years. I’m longing for the days when i can make a room cosy rather than trying to keep it cool.

This is beautiful, I love greys in a room, they are so calming and can be really transformed with a pop of colour. #TriumphantTales
