Working from home isn’t always as easy as it sounds. It can be difficult to stay organised and motivated and it can sometimes be tiresome when you are working where you live seven days a week. That’s why it’s super important to make sure your home office is inviting, motivating and pleasant to spend a great deal of time in. Here are some tips on how to update your home office to get the best out of your space.
Bring outside, inside
You spend a lot of time in your office so why not have something pleasant to look at? Treat yourself to a bunch of flowers once a week and position them where you can see them. Not only will they smell nice, but they will really brighten the place up and make it a much more pleasant environment to be in. Pot plants are another option – or if you’re like me and can’t keep a pot plant alive to save your life, invest in a good quality faux plant. They are so lifelike these days, it’s hard to tell the difference. Just don’t forget to dust the leaves once in a while!
Create a feature wall
Just because you have an office, no one says the decor has to be boring. It’s your home office after all. It should reflect your personality. Brick feature walls are super modern and very trendy looking. You’ll get an urban look in no time and it is likely to be something very different to what you are used to. With a new fresh feel to your office, you are likely to have more motivation which can only be a good thing.
Organise your desk space
Sounds obvious, but how tidy is your desk space really? Do you know where everything is? Take time to go through all of your paperwork and give everything a home. Invest in printed folders, some decent storage and an effective filing system so that you know exactly where to find what you are looking for. Once you have done this, treat yourself to some cute and quirky desk accessories. I have a New York snow globe on mine! But things like pen cups and tape dispensers should be pleasant on the eye. Go on, buy yourself that rose gold one you’ve had your eye on!
Hang some motivational quotes
Who doesn’t love a good motivational quote? I know I do. Get some printed off and hang them above your desk. Take time to read them every day to help put you in a good mindset. Make a little gallery and you can always add to it when you come across your next favourite. It’s a super easy (and cheap) way to make your home office welcoming and inspirational.
Choose calming colours
When decorating, think about the colours. It’s probably best not to choose a fiery red, instead go for cooling and calming colours. Shades that will assist in keeping your motivation and inspiration at a high. Calming neutrals and cooling whites are perfect and then you can add some happy accent tones to bring in some colour. When you update your home office in this way, you’ll never want to leave!
