Look After Yourself During Pregnancy

It is really important that you look after yourself during your pregnancy, as well as after. Pregnancy, especially if it is your first, can seem like quite a daunting experience. Everyone experiences pregnancy differently, so it is important that you take everything at your own pace, and find what works for you personally. To help you get started, here are some top tips to help you take care of yourself.

#1 Get support from your midwife

Getting support from your midwife right from the start can keep you at ease. They are specialists in their field, and filled with knowledge and experience to support you, and reassure you along the way. They will be with you throughout the ensure process, including the birth to provide you with care and advice, and access to education and resources to suit your experiences. It can be a great source of reassurance, so make sure you stay in regular contact, schedule regular appointments and ask lots of questions.

#2 Look after your health

The best way you can look after your unborn baby before it arrives is to look after yourself. Make sure you fill your diet with nutritious food, vitamins and minerals to keep your body healthy and functioning optimally, drink lots of water, get as much quality sleep as you possibly can, and stay active. You should seek advice from a medical professional about the level of exercise you should participate in at different stages of your pregnancy, but staying active can keep you healthy and help strengthen your pelvic floor. Your health also extends to your skin. As your belly grows, and your hormones change, your body and skin will begin to adapt. There are plenty of things you can do to keep your skin healthy, such as regularly using bio oil, which is popular amongst many parents. Lastly, you should reduce your stress and take lots of time out. Stress can impact your body negatively in a variety of ways, so it is important to give yourself a bit of space and allow your body to evolve, without adding more stress on yourself.

#3 Take classes

There are a variety of different parenting classes that you can take while you are pregnant. They are a great way to prepare yourself mentally for what lies ahead, as well as physically, as there are many classes that show you the birthing process, breathing techniques, and many more. They can be extremely useful, provide you with resources and practical tips, but more importantly, they provide you with a great level of support. It is a great way to connect with other expecting parents, share experiences and help, and just have someone else in your corner who knows what you are going through. This can help you mentally get through the pregnancy and all the changes you are going to experience.

Pregnancy can be extremely daunting, so it is vital that you are proactive and take steps that will help you to take care of yourself, and in turn, your unborn child.
