Once a blonde, always a blonde…

My last post leaned a little towards the serious side & so I wanted to make the next one a fun one. It won’t be to everyone’s tastes but it might be interesting all the same. Especially to anyone considering returning from the dark side…so to speak!

Last year I wrote a post called ‘Blonde vs Brunette’. You can read it by clicking that link, and in short it saves me explaining the background of this new post. Yeah yeah, lazy I know.

To cut a very long story short, I used to be platinum blonde, then I went to the complete extreme and went the darkest of brunettes. It was great while it lasted but then I realised that I was stuck in a huge rut. I coloured my roots on a regular basis and that was all I could do. I couldn’t have highlights or even lighten my hair all over with ease. I was stuck. It began to get me down. Having always had much lighter hair and having been such a bright blonde for so long, I felt so restricted and actually almost felt that my light wasn’t shining quite as bright as it should be.

So it was time to do something about it. Deciding was the easy part. Finding someone who was willing to take on the challenge was a very big mission indeed.
I knew it wasn’t going to be a small task. My previously bleached hair had been covered up with I don’t know how many layers of dark brown hair dye and it was going to take a lot to lighten it up again. I went around several hairdressers in my home town, none of which really wanted to help me. Well, they said they would, but I got the vibe from all of them that it was really too much of a big job. But, I didn’t give up and then I stumbled upon Hevan’s Bespoke Hair. Stratford Upon Avon is a very small market town that is huge on tourism, but it also has it’s fair share of hairdressing salons. This was the only salon I could find that were excited to take on my brown to blonde challenge. And take on it they did.

Over 4 months I went through the process of gradually getting lighter. In the first visit I had a colour remover applied and a full head highlights and a toner added. In the second visit, another full head and toner. The third visit, a half head of highlights and toner and in the forth another full head of highlights. No word of a lie, in four visits I went from what looked like black hair to gorgeous sunkissed blonde.

I never intended to have a block colour of blonde again. I love the look of highlights and my new hair colour is so beautifully natural, I can’t help but smile every time I catch a glimpse of it in the mirror, or a shop window. Yes my hair has taken a little bit of a battering but remains in a brilliant condition considering.

I can’t thank Hevans enough for changing my hair colour for me. Not only have they given me my hair colour back, they’ve given me a little bit of the old me back. A part I felt I’d lost. And for that I’m eternally grateful.

Oh it really was! Quite nice to go through a few colours though but nice to eventually get there, and in time for summer too. Thanks so much. 🙂

I love the new blonde, but I have to say I also love the brunette. You rock both very well! 😉
