I’ve Got A New Husband!

I’ve Got A New Husband!

Now I don’t want to freak you out by the title of this blog post! I haven’t literally got a new husband but I’ve certainly got one that looks a lot different to how he did this time last year!

Mr J has always been an athletic build. But never the type that he liked. He has done many a half marathon in the past and he was perfectly built for this. Tall and very slim. He won’t mind me telling you that he hated it. He always wanted to be bigger and he knew it would take a lot of hard work.

For years, and I mean years, I listened to him go on about how he wished he was a bigger, more muscular build. I told him he should just go ahead and do something about it, but he never did. Until last September.

Last September he came to me and said he seriously wanted to join the gym. I’ve spoken openly on this blog about his battles with depression, and he felt that not only would it do him some good physically, but it would also help him with his mental health. I wasn’t going to say no to that. And so it began.

I’ll be the first to admit that it was going to be just another phase. Mr J has a tendency of having fads for different things. They last all of a few weeks, maybe months if we are lucky until something else comes along! But I’m happy to say, that this didn’t happen this time. Twelve months later and he is still going to the gym and I have a new husband!

This was Mr J before he started his mission.

Excusing the first picture from the equation, you can see why I say he was perfectly built for long distance running.

Over the last twelve months, I have watched this lovely man of mine show commitment I have never seen before. Admittedly I have paid a price. Our nights together are no longer as long as most evenings he will be in the gym. But then I am usually sat working on blog related things anyway, so it’s not so bad. If anything, it works well. We both do our thing and then get together after. It makes our time together more special.

He has changed his diet and his lifestyle and it has paid off. We may have cupboards full of protein and a fridge full of pre-cooked meals but, to see him that much happier with himself, makes it all worth it.

This is my husband now.

It doesn’t take a genius to see how well he’s done. The thing is with weight training is that when it’s done the right way, and the healthy way, it’s a slow process. He isn’t where he wants to be yet. He is always aiming to improve. But having seen how far he’s come in just one year, I have no doubt that he will get there.

In twelve months he has lost two inches off his stomach. He has gained two inches on his arms and three inches on his chest. Can you imagine where we will be in another years time?

It can be pretty pricey this gym malarkey. Well, it is if you take it really seriously. Obviously, you have your gym membership to pay for but on top of that, we have the monthly protein bill! The food bill! And the clothes! Who knew that it was all about looking good in the gym?! I have had my eyes opened!

The annoying thing though? The bigger he gets, the more clothes he has to buy. And they say women are bad with clothes shopping? Not in our household!

Jacamo, the men’s fashion specialists recently got in touch to ask if I would be interested in working with them. Mr J has always loved his clothes and so was super chuffed to receive some lovely items. He is modelling them here for me. I think you’ll agree he has done a mighty fine job!

And as you can see, the Little Man is pretty pleased for his Dad and the progress he’s made! He couldn’t resist in getting involved in our mini fashion show and photo shoot! What a fine pair they are!

Mr J loves the Under Armour joggers. He goes through so many pairs each week because he trains most days. The Under Armour ones are a favourite with him and always have been. This is the second pair of them he has owned and hopefully, these will last as long as his first pair. Jacamo has a great selection of joggers available at great prices, so we will definitely bear this in mind for the future.

I am so proud of how far my lovely husband has come in such a short space of time. His dedication is inspiring and whilst I still haven’t made it to the gym, he is proof that if you want something bad enough if you put your mind to it, you really can achieve it.

Have you got an inspiring story to tell? Have you lost a lot of weight or gained a lot of muscle? Let me know in the comments.
