Budget Tips for Beauty Fiends

Everyone has a weakness in life. Whether it’s dog-eared old paperbacks, vintage tea sets or shiny new make-up compacts, there’ll be something in this world that you find hard to resist.

If you’re a real beauty counter queen then you know you spend too much on your serums, your eyeshadows and your lipsticks. OK, maybe not too much all the time, but it’s something you’re looking to rein in a little because you’re either saving or trying to pay down debts. You’ve already been to this website for help and ideas and you’re wondering how to adapt them to your cosmetics habit! Here are a few more pointers for you.

You can hand in your old MAC pots and get freebies

Your local MAC counter will give you a freebie product when you hand in six old containers. These containers can be lipstick tubes, foundation bottles, empty palettes and eyeshadow pots; hand in six empties and you can claim a free lipstick, lip-liner or eyeshadow.

Don’t buy unnecessary products

This is a bit obvious, right? This doesn’t just mean organic make-up products and brands, though. You might have spent money on a lot of accessories like make-up brush cleansers and so on. Of course, it’s important to keep your brushes clean, but you can use a very gentle baby shampoo instead; it works just as well and costs a fraction of the price.

Read about DIY treatments

You might need to make an initial outlay for the essential and base oils, or the beeswax and whatnot, but once you get the hang of whizzing together your own face masks and cleansing concoctions, you’ll love it. You can even raid the kitchen cupboard and fridge for some really cheap scrub ingredients!

Eschew the latest must-haves!

Must-haves aren’t actually compulsory, you know. If there’s a huge new trend sweeping the faces and make-up counters of the nation, stop and think about whether it’s actually that different to what’s gone before. You also need to think about whether it’ll actually work for you. You might be spending money on something that just isn’t you, simply because you’ve seen a few how-to vids.

Sign up for loyalty schemes

Most major cosmetics manufacturers offer loyalty schemes and so if you’re a loyal customer, you shouldn’t miss out. Even if you only earn enough points to get a free eyeliner once a year, it’s something. Just resist the temptation to buy extra products in order to get the eyeliner!

Back to those how-to videos

If you’re not getting your styling quite right, then it’s easy to think it’s the products at fault, so you head out and buy more. The problem might actually be your technique, so watch some YouTube tutorials and practice with the products and tools you already have before throwing more money at it.

Downgrade just a notch

We all know there are top-end products and then the cheap and cheerful ones. What we tend to forget, however, is that there’s a huge range of quality in between the top and bottom. Look for products a notch or two below your usual and give it a go. You could try samples, to make sure they work for you, before you buy so you definitely don’t waste any money.
